Chris Long named NFC defensive player of the week

St. Louis defensive end Chris Long had a major impact in the Rams’ 20-17 win over the Chargers on Sunday, and he’s been rewarded with his first NFC defensive player of the week award.

Long equaled his career high with two sacks in the game and was part of a defense that had seven sacks overall. He previously had a two-sack game in 2008 against the Patriots.

The Chargers lead the league in total offense, but the Rams did a good job of keeping them in check, holding them to 287 yards.

Long is the first Ram to be named defensive player of the week since Oshiomogho Agogwe in Week Six of 2008.

Jake Long is still better for those who though Chris was the better Long to draft.

Congrats to him. I thought he was a bust, but looks like he’s improving.

Why Not EJ Henderson with 2 picks for the Vikings? Chris Long had 2 Sacks out of the 7 the defense put up? Sounds more like an O-Line failure than a Defensive player of the week.

This award really should have gone to E.J. Henderson. Not just saying that as vikings fan but he essentially won the game for us with that second interception. I dont think long having 2 sacks was the reason why the rams won the game.

This is bullshit. Other people had it right with the Vikings EJ Henderson. Not only did he have two picks, but those two picks were deep in the Cowboys’ territory and directly resulted in 10 points for the Vikings, who won by 3 points as well. Two sacks? So what? That happens all the time. How often does a player, let alone a Linebacker, get two INT’s in the same game? Especially when those two INT’s make the difference in the game! Ridiculous!

Former Lion James Hall had 2 sacks 1 more tackle(3) and a blocked kick in that same game …guess he wins the Rodney Dangerfield award…GoLions!

James Hall probably does deserve the award because of the blocked field goal, but Long was a better player on the DL. Hall has been insane this year so far though, six sacks already.

Please. Long may have “only” had 2 sack, but he was in Rivers grill ALL DAY. Sacks are just a stat you whiners. Long and Hall were the reasons the Rams held the bolts under 300 yds. Well deserved.
