Bears continue to search for answers on offensive line

The Giants exposed Chicago’s massive offensive line problems a few weeks back, and the Bears haven’t come up with any answers in the meantime.

“There’s a reason why sometimes young linemen look like they don’t know what they’re doing,’' offensive line coach Mike Tice told the Chicago Tribune, “because usually, they don’t.’'

The Bears seem to be having simple communication problems in addition to physically getting beat. They often don’t know who to pick up on relatively simple blitzes.

Tice said he used 20 different protection schemes last week, while one offensive lineman told reporter Vaughn McClure the team only used six.

“Confusing? No, not at all,’' center Olin Kreutz said about the team’s game plans. “You have to know in the NFL that this is your job. And if you’re confused, then put in more freaking work, period. If you can’t handle it, you can’t play in the NFL.”

The blame seems to be getting placed mostly on rookie right tackle J’Marcus Webb and second-year right guard Edwin Williams. Of course Tice’s coaching, Mike Martz’s scheme, and the team’s front office deserve a share of the blame.

“On the field they don’t speak because they’re not positive they know what they know what they think they know they know,’' Tice said.

Now we’re confused.
