Neon Deion should be thrilled to be that high.
There is no way the Sanders could honestly tell you, "I never stopped trying on a play because I figured that my team mate was going to make the tackle" with a straight face. Hey, that's fine, but that attitude knocks him down a bit. I am only 30, but I feel confident in saying that Dick Butkus never, ever played a down with that kind of attitude.
Hell, this list has him as the best CB ever and the second best secondary player of all time. I would hardily dispute both of those claims.

Being insulted at being ranked #34 of all-time? Amazing he can walk un-aided hauling that super-sized ego of his around. While I'd have ranked him lower than both Green and Woodsen, that's just my opinion. 34 is not unreasonable when you look at all the names on the list thus far.
When you consider the thousands that have played the game - all the names in the Hall of Fame - to get anywhere in the top 100 is an honor, not an insult.
To a few previous posters:
Where is Terrell Davis ranked? In the top 100 of all time? Maybe 125 - 150 or so?
Someone else slighted Gale Sayers. It's OK, junior - you're not expected to know much about any player that played before 1980 - so I'll give you a pass.
There were some other silly comments , but I'll let them go.
Anyway - here's a no brainer for the top ten and number one:
These four will be somewhere in the top ten (no particular order here): Brown, Unitas, Rice and Montana; and one of those four will be No. 1. Book it.

You got to tackle if you want to be higher ranked Deion. If you werent so afraid of contact and actually helped a bit in the run defense, you are a top 10 player.
I can think of 12 Steeler defenders who made a bigger impact than this clown. Ed Reed and Deion are both too high on this list. Reed shouldnt even be on it yet.
Where is Terrell Davis ranked? Because he should be higher than both of these guys.

Dieon was the first DIVA! How can he be #34??#34?? I would not put him in top 75! He was so overrrated and only retirned punts ans tippped passes! The things I remember about Dieon:
1) throwing water on Tim McCarver
2) Trying to kill himself by driving off a 5 foot cliff
3) getting taken off field in Carolina in playoff game

Stats don't lie. In his sixteen year career, Sanders had a grand total of 6 touchdowns on punt returns and 3 touchdowns on kick returns... That's good, but not the level that some are claiming. He did have 53 intercptions but that's quite a bit below the 81 Paul Krause caught in fewer years. And less career interceptions then Emlen Tunnell, Rod Woodson, Night Train Lane, and 17 others. Beyond that tackling is a huge part of a cornerback's job, and anyone who says otherwise is in denial. A perfect pass and perfect catch beats perfect coverage nearly every time. Sure Sanders was able to pick off a pass on average every other game, but every other pass that he didn't pick off was dangerous because Sanders wouldn't tackle them. In addition if he didn't get any help on the outside you could run on him all day long.

no one of any consequence...
I agree 100% with you, but you are forgetting one statistic/fact..I can't remember the exact year, but you didn't include the one time that Deion looked slow against the Skins. He was playing receiver as well for the Cowboys, made a catch down the sideline, and was wide open to the endzone...until Darrell Green chased him down from the opposite side of the field and saved a TD. I believe Green was in his late 30s by that time...Green is definitely the best of the best.

He was playing receiver as well for the Cowboys, made a catch down the sideline, and was wide open to the endzone...until Darrell Green chased him down from the opposite side of the field and saved a TD. I believe Green was in his late 30s by that time...Green is definitely the best of the best.

I gotta agree with OranjelloJones. I'd take Darrell Green over any other CB ever. In addition to everything Oranjello listed, here's a few more:
Green was truly a class act. He spent his entire career with one team. He repeatedly told his agent to just get him a good deal. He didn't want or need top dollar and it was essential that he remain with the Redskins.
He was never in trouble with the law, never accused of beating his wife or having an affair, never accused of using performance enhancing substances or drugs of any kind.
He never ran his yap about how good he was.
Darrell Green was a true role model. Professional sports could use more like him.
He could and did cover anyone. Do a little research and see all the HOF'ers he shut down.
He could and did hit and tackle.
He played for 20 years.
The first time he ever touched the ball in an NFL game he returned a punt 61 yards for a TD in a preseason game against the Falcons.
In his first regular season game, he ran down Tony Dorsett, coming from across the field to do so, and prevented a TD.
He was the NFL's fastest man four times - every competition he entered.
Some of his achievements:
7× Pro Bowl selection (1984, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1996, 1997)
4× All-Pro selection (1986, 1987, 1990, 1991)
2× Super Bowl Champion (XXII, XXVI)
NFL 1990s All-Decade Team
1996 Walter Payton Man of the Year
1997 Bart Starr Award
He's credited with the following:
Tackles 1,159
Sacks 1.0
INTs 54, returned for 621 yards and 6 TD's. Add two more INT's and TD's in the post season.
Fumbles 10 recovered and returned for 131 yards and 10 TD's.
Joe Gibbs said his biggest regret was not letting Green return kicks more.
Green allegedly clocked a 4.43 second 40 yard dash last February 16 - his 50th birthday!
He still lives in the DC area.
Deion couldn't carry Darrell's jock.

If you only considered Deion as a defensive player then MAYBE he wasnt better than any of those other defensive players. However, Deion also had an impact returning punts were he was also one of the best of all time! Also, just looking at the defensive alone (while it is hard to compare the impact of a DB to that of LB or DE because they have different roles), look at Ronnie Lott, whom I admire a lot, no way he had a bigger impact than Deion. When Deion was on the field no one would throw to his side of the field period. As good as Lott was, I don;t recall teams trying to avoid the middle of the field because Lott was there. Lott was great, but offenses changed their entire gameplan when they faced Deion. Deion would actually play off his man to bait a QB to throw his off, which would usually result in a INT if the QB was dumb enough to throw it! We haven't seen anything like it since, even with all the talk of Revis island - teams still throw at him or in his area - if a team throw 3 balls to Deion's side of the field in a game that was news. (you could run at him, but you weren't throwing anywhere near him - at least not successfully)

We haven’t seen anything like it since, even with all the talk of Revis island – teams still throw at him or in his area – if a team throw 3 balls to Deion’s side of the field in a game that was news. (you could run at him, but you weren’t throwing anywhere near him – at least not successfully)

This NFL Networks list is a joke. Deion may have been a little low but Emmitt Smith, and John Elway were way too low. Both should have been in the top 15. How is Gayle Sayers ahead of the all time leader rusher? Sayers was electrifying but his stats are equivalent to Terrell Davis. How the hell is Tom Brady better than John Elway and Dan Marino? John Elway carried 3 team to the Superbowl by himself. Marino shattered all of the passing records. Also I know people hate Terrell Owens but Randy Moss is 65 on the list and TO's #'s are identical to Moss' plus he played in a SB, runs patterns over the middle, and NEVER quit on his team. NFL Network should be ashamed of itself.

I don't see what the big problem is here, Deion. By position, you are the highest ranked CB in the history of the NFL, at least according to this list. Only one DB ranked higher than you, Deion, and thats Ronnie Lott. Yes, Ronnie Lott was a better player than you, Deion, and therefore should be ranked higher. Get over it.
