For the second time this year, the Dolphins are beginning to quietly make a push for a improvements to their stadium, which has had too many different names to keep track of.
Douglas Hanks of the Miami Herald reports the team hired a polling firm to gauge support for improvements. They tried (and failed) to increase the local hotel tax to help fund improvements seven months ago. Now Dolphins CEO Mike Dee reportedly met with Miami Beach’s mayor in an effort to tie stadium improvements to a local push to rebuild the local convention center.
The NFL could have an impact on the measure’s success. South Florida is “due” for another Super Bowl in 2015 or so. If the league doesn’t award the game to the area when they meet in May, it will lend credence to the following statement:
“We’re not getting more Super Bowls, and we’re not getting more Pro Bowls and we’re not getting more events of great consequence if we don’t somehow respond to the need for improvements’’ team lobbyist Ron Book said Wednesday.
That’s a quote that could be used against any bid for the big game until the Dolphins can find the money for improvements.
