Dolphins owner tells Ireland that Carl Peterson is not taking over

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has a close relationship with former Chiefs executive Carl Peterson, which has led to plenty of speculation that Peterson could eventually take Bill Parcells’ old role.

That’s not going to happen, at least according to Ross.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that Ross has told “various people” including Dolphins G.M. Jeff Ireland that Peterson will not be taking Parcells’ old spot. Ireland had his contract amended recently so that he only reported to Ross.

As Florio pointed out last week, however, Ireland’s job security is only as good as the Dolphins’ record. The organization could still cut bait with Ireland after this season if things went south for the 3-2 Dolphins. Ireland’s contract runs through 2011.
