Jets may rotate Cromartie, Revis on top receivers

The Jets are 5-1 despite a defense that has been inconsistent, especially against the pass.

Darrelle Revis has gone from having a “once-in-a-lifetime year for any corner” to being injured or a liability when he’s played.  After a week to get his hamstring healthy, the Jets say Revis Island won’t be so easy to get to this week.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Revis will match up with the opposition’s best receiver all game.  Antonio Cromartie expects to rotate with Revis against top guys the rest of the year.

“I
anticipate that,” Cromartie told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “We feel we have the
best cornerback tandem in the league. Both of us are basically No. 1
corners.”

After a rough Week One, Cromartie has acquitted himself very well with the Jets.  But if Revis is anywhere close to his 2009 form, he should be the guy trying to erase top wideouts.

We’ll find out how healthy Revis really is this week based on his assignment and effectiveness against Greg Jennings and the Packers.

    Just because they can.
What makes this team great so far is that everyone has bought into Rex and his team first philosophy.
No bickering over who is #1 CB.
No bickering over who is the #1 RB.
This is why anyone who said that all of the additions, Jason Taylor, LT, Cromartie, Holmes and all of their collective problems would blow up do not have a clue on how effective Rex is as Head Coach.
    Maybe now you do.

Well Shouldn’t Cromartie get Nnamdi Asomugha money if He’s going to be doing the say job as Revis?

  3. jamaltimore says: Oct 28, 2010 10:25 AM

Enough with all revis all the time. The overated corner stole the summer headlines by crying that he was underpaid. Then he got paid and has played not nearly as well as he did last year. He was beaten and injured in his first game back by a 15yr wide receiver, Derrick Mason! funny the guy in oakland pisses on revis island yet his name is barely mentioned because his head coach prefers to beat people up rather than run his mouth all day!

  4. hardy_na says: Oct 28, 2010 10:45 AM

So when Revis gets burned, Cromartie will cover the other teams “best WR”? What happened to the self proclaimed “Island”?

If Revis is back to 100% and with the Way A-Cro has been playing ,opposing offenses are in deep-s–t ,

Maybe now we do? How bout after the Packers game we will.
Jets were lucky to beat a Broncos team that lost by 50 points to the Raiders.
They are over-rated and will be exposed this week. Even at home, and even after a bye week to prepare.

I would think the Packers would have a better chance if the front seven wasn’t so banged up…Peterson ran all over them because of this and I’m sure the Jets plan to do the same. Although I think if they come into the game with the same intensity as they did with the Vikes, they will win.

All hating aside, the dude got big money because he “is the best CB in the league.”
Shouldn’t the so called “best” be covering the best WR’s?

  10. moolah954 says: Oct 28, 2010 11:14 AM

    @Kisstherings
Every week a person like you come up and sez the jets will be exposed and with a 5-1 record they all seem to eat crow … when the jets win will you be like every other hater and disappear? or will you come back and own up

    Really fudge packer???
Lets see if you can get that running game going lmao

so says the fan of a 4-3 team in the NFC that is 1-2 on the road.
-6.5 pts, well I don’t think the Jets are exactly peeing in their pants about facing the Packers!!!

Oh really? Based on WHAT exactly? The Jets went to Denver (hostile environment) on a short week and stole a road game from a Broncos team that was actually well prepared. The Packers are decimated by injuries and lose a key player every week. Fact: the Jets are a top-5 team in this league and the sooner douches like yourself realize this, the easier it will be for you to deal with when the Jets smash your team in the face. Get used to it.

    Joe Toronto ,
I agree with the he should be covering the best , but with that said ,Jennings has a high ypc but not that many grabs, I think the fact Finley is gone really hurts the Packers ,he was the best option in the passing game, it also looks like Driver might not play , with Cromartie playing at a pro-bowl level so far this season ,you can have him shadow Jennings as well ,this allows Revis to chase some of the slot recievers that have been giving the Jets D problems up to this point..

    Nice forum name….
I guess it’s understandable that Jet fans wouldn’t know how to ‘stay classy’ when things are going well for the local 11…….afterall, it’s been 40+ years since they’ve won it all…..you have little to no experience with success!!!

Someone hacked into your account and posted a reply with no name-calling or insults…..just good football talk!!! You’d better look into this….you wouldn’t want people in here to think that you’re capable of mature, intelligent thoughts!!!

Whatever man. If the Jets down the Packers you’ll just say that the Packers injuries are what cost them the game.
Win or lose at least we’ll do it respectfully.

  18. Ruvell200 says: Oct 28, 2010 11:49 AM

The story in this game should not be how the Jets D is going to approach a Packer’s receiving corp without Finley and possibly Driver.
The story is how in the hell are the Pack going to stop the Jets rushing attack with half their D hurt. Tell me what is more impressive:
    1. Jenkins, Pickett, Raji, Matthews, Hawk, Barnett, Jones
    or
    2. Raji, C.J. Wilson (doesn’t he play baseball?), Jarius Wynn, Frank Zombo, Desmond Bishop, Hawk and Matthews.

  19. lightsout1115 says: Oct 28, 2010 12:03 PM

I won’t talk trash on the Jets. They’re good. But Cromartie needs a reality check here. He has NEVER been a #1 CB. Not even in San Diego.
3 Pass Interference calls, 1 Defensive holding, 1 Illegal contact, 1 offsides call.
That’s too many penalties to be considered a #1 CB ANYWHERE, much less when a guy like Revis is on his team. I understand that guy has phenomenal ball skills, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. If there is no qb pressure the guy is a liability (see Brandon Marshall when Cro played for SD). Revis can shut down a WR in any situation. Cro = not so much…

The Jets are going to smash the Packers in the face?????
Since 2008 when Rodgers took over (39 games) the Packers are 21-18 and in those 18 losses, the Packers have been within 1 score 13 times and never more than 2 scores….so I don’t think the Jets will be smashing the Pack….they may squeek out a win, but I’m not seeing it that way.
The Packers are a wounded dog and have nothing to lose….Rodgers will be lights out and the D will do just enough….Packers 20-19

  21. JetFan in Miami says: Oct 28, 2010 12:28 PM

I’ve come to learn the haters will find anything to hate on. The Jets are 5-1 currently and are not hitting on all cylinders yet. It is not a matter of whether Revis could defend #1 WR’s for the length of an entire game, because we know he can. But showing different looks to the offense is a smart move. Both corners have different strengths and skill sets so it should keep both of them sharp. The team implosion that was predicted before the season (and after the first game), was greatly exaggerated! Name me one 5 win team that has played at their A+ game for the entirety of the season so far.

I could tell from your username you are a Ravens fan but it its wierd you call yourself a fan if you dont even watch the Ravens games. In week 1, Mason did not beat Revis on any play. When a CB gives up 0 catches for 0 yards, as Revis did in week 1 per ESPN, it is kind of impossible to get beat by someone.

  25. County K 66ers says: Oct 28, 2010 1:08 PM

This game will not even be close. Green Bay and the new No-Name-Defense will beat the NY Douchettes Sunday 48-10.

  26. GreenAsGrass says: Oct 28, 2010 1:18 PM

    @county k
…yawn. this game will be over in 3rd Q the Jets will drop a 31 spot on Bay of Pigs and their new Non-Existant defense.
Just keep reminding yourself that GB is a mediocre NFC team about to get pounded by a legit AFC team, okay? That should get you thru the day.

I don’t translate this to mean the Jets will win by double digits.
Sounds more like the comment is stating the Jets are going to play a much tougher brand of football and beat up the Packers in all phases of the game…but hey I’m just an uneducated, ignorant New Yorker/Jets fan….what do I know

He wasn’t because the system wouldn’t let him BUT, he IS now and he plays injured too, always has and he’s never complained or made excuses.
    What’s Revis’ excuse?
