trent has my vote– he’s not out there having shootouts, knife fights, dog fighting, running a chop shop, robbing liquor stores, beating his wife or live in girlfriend, drunk driving, killing someone while driving drunk, carring around guns, knives and other weapons, doing drugs and anything else that makes professional sports look bad. The guy tells you that he is not the best QB out there. He is an excellent public speaker, and you can understand what he says. The fact of the matter is, the man does have a super bowl ring. It was a team effort, not a one man effort. The whole team got a ring and this includes the players who never stepped onto the field as well as all the coaches. Not to mention he was around for 14 years.

I am so sick of anyone trying to say Dilfer did anything to win the Super Bowl. All Dilfer did was the very minimum, he threw one TD in the Super Bowl, he only threw 12 TDs the whole season and 11 INTs. He fumbled the ball 8 times that season and was lucky that the Ravens managed to recover 6 of those fumbles. He was an aweful QB but we won games because of our defense. Jamal Lewis was the major part of the offense that year with 309 carries 1364 yards with a 4.4 yard per carry average, 6 TDs and 85 yards per game average. Only 6 fumbles on those 309 carries and only two of those were turnovers. Then throw in Priest Holmes with another 137 carries, 588 yards, 2 rushing TDs, only one fumble for a turnover out of 2 fumbles. Then there was Jermaine Lewis with 601 total return yards in the kicking game and 2 TD in regular season on kick returns, 1 REC TD, plus a kick return for a TD in the Super Bowl. The defense and Matt Stover were the main reason we won that year, end of story. In October the offense scored zero touchdowns and we won 2 of the 4 games on fieldgoals and defense. The Ravens defense had 11 TDs that year and the offense only had 20 TDs total. The two highest QB ratings on the team that year belonged to Jermaine Lewis who thre one pass for 3 yards, and Chris Redman who only attempted 3 passes completing 2 of them. Tony Banks actually had better numbers in almost every catagory except TDs throwing 4 less TDs but also 3 less INTs. Banks had a lower INT percentage with only 2.9% where Dilfer was 4.9%. They both started 8 games and banks aloso fumbled 3 less times than Dilfer, so the statement made by numerous articles and comments about Dilfer not turning the ball over are just not true. He did not manage the game any better than Banks and actually none of Banks 5 fumbles were turn overs so Dilfer had more turnovers than Banks.

Ozzie Newsome leads one of the best front offices in the league (as chosen by NFL executives), however, they are not infallible. I would just like to respond to Dixon29′s rant that makes it appear as though he is about 12 and crying over something, however, I have yet to figure out about what his whining is about. First, Buffalo hung 30 on NE, are they not listed first in the power rankings? I guess NE sucks too? Actually, the whole top 5 suck, huh Dixon29. You are really showing your NFL expertise now. How many the other team puts up doesn’t matter if we put up more. It is called winning. Peyton Hillis from the Browns has had a phenomenal year and his first start was against the Ravens who were unprepared for his style. The other teams he had faced were aware of him and yet he put up over 100 on cincy and blew out Atl and Pitt in the passing game. Oh yeah, and we beat them. Ravens beat Pittsburgh on their own home turf and regardless of who the qb was, he doesn’t play defense and we went down field with 40 seconds left on one of the best defensive squads in football and scored. It was not the other way around. You can hate all you want, but the fact is, when you have a loser team, which Dixon29 obviously has, it’s easy to criticize the teams that are doing well. Ever hear of sour grapes?

The Ravens are a myth. Buffalo hung 34 on you, the Browns rushed for over 150 yards on you, and Pittsburgh almost beat you with a 4th string QB. Yep, you are the most overrated team in the NFL.

trent should just be happy he can say he was a superbowl winning QB despite doing almost nothing to achieve that status. I remember that year very fondly and remember marvin lewis and ray lewis saying they only needed 10 ppg out of the offense to get a win. that defense was just downright nasty had like 5 or 6 shutouts that year and the asinine stat of being undefeated when the team scored at least 1 touchdown, the lewis’s( ray, jamal, jermaine and marvin) along with matt stover won that title all dilfer had to do was not mess things up.

This was one of the few cases of a team winning the Superbowl despite, not because of, their quarterback. The objective reality is Trent Dilfer was sloppy with the ball, wasn’t good at reading defenses, and the Ravens did a good job hiding him. In Tampa he was run out of town because Shaun King could throw the ball better.
Dilfer has no right to criticize the Ravens.

That team went to the 2nd round of the playoffs the next year. The reason they didn’t win again is because Jamal Lewis tore his ACL and Leon Searcy never made it on the field. Say what you want about the team loving Dilfer, as soon as they would’ve gone on a 3 game losing streak, they would’ve been calling for a new QB. There’s a reason Dilfer never became a full-time starter after that.
If you look at Grbac’s numbers with KC, he was lighting it up. The Ravens made the right call and they went deep in the playoffs. Unfortunately, they had to do it with Terry Allen as their RB.

Elvis at the time looked like the better QB, it was a smart move on paper. The offense was being built around the young stud RB ,Jamal Lewis, but he got hurt. Now you ask Elvis to go win with not much offense around you.
Baltimore is a football town. The owners and politicians are the ones who messed up the original Colts leaving. If Baltimore was not a great football city then why did every start up try to bring it to Baltimore? The only city to have won a USFL championship, CFL championship, NFL Championship and Super Bowls. It would be a shame if the NFL realigns anytime soon and dismantles the AFC North.

The Ravens have made the playoffs 5 out of the 9 years since winning SB35. They also made it to the AFC Championship Game in 2008. They have won a total of 4 playoff games in that time frame. How is this not sniffing the Super Bowl?

Dilfer was so pitiful in Tampa his own running back told a 14 year old me how much his QB “sucks.” I shared this comment with him as I declined his autograph at the 1995 NFL Experience, eliciting chuckles from Bettis and Bledsoe seated next to him.

Couldn’t agree more. Although Trent is indeed a class act (I have met him before) the thought of him being the QB with no running game sends shivers down my spine. I was getting tired of seeing him throw screen passes at the tight-ends feet. He never did anything after he left Baltimore. Grbac had much better productivity numbers and I thought the move was a great one. However, losing your running game will bring any team to it’s knees so Grbac was behind the 8 -ball from the beginning.

yes, Dilfer is still steaming because after he left Baltimore, they never reached another Super Bowl because of that change, lol. Give me a break. I’ve never seen a more self important loser who actually did win something once upon a time.
He makes me laugh when he says asinine stuff like, “when me and Tony Dungy left Tampa, we’d laid the foundation to turn that franchise around,” or the more laughable, “guys like me and Brett Favre like to audible out of plays and get the right one for the team to run,” lol.
That team won games that year when Tony Banks was the original starter and went 4 games without an offensive TD. You’re the answer to the question, “Why did NFL organizations start believing that they could win a Super Bowl with mediocre QBs,” lol. That defense was that good.
Apparently he doesn’t remember how Dungy was originally on the firing squad for sticking with him way too long, how they constantly tried to hide his deficiencies when he was there (and other places), or that he sucked the rest of his career as he never started again except in the case of injury when he left Baltimore. Get that gas bag off the air and banish him to Salisbury land, lol.
BSPN’s loser analysts are full of sorry never wases from Dilfer to Mr. Elizabeth Hasselbeck to Keyshawn “I really was a no. 1 receiver once” Johnson, lol. It’s why I never watch their football analysis because it’s hard to take the commentary of the mediocre to bad players that they employ seriously when they try to criticize guys who are playing now.
At least when Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, Rod Woodson, Warren Sapp, or Sterling Sharpe do so on the NFL network, you have to stop and say, those guys were really good when they played, their opinion is valid. Don’t give me some loser who never fulfilled his own potential when he played but can sure talk well….that’s not why they have those jobs, it’s to get the player perspective. Therefore, if you were a loser player, they shouldn’t even hire you because you bring no credibility to the job. Kids today probably think Dilfer and Hasselbeck were Hall of Famers because they know how to talk the game real well, lol.

Dilfer was valuable during his career, which is more than can be said for the majority of guys who get drafted at QB. He helped TB become relevant under Dungy (though admittedly not nearly as much as the D or Dunn/Alstott), he performed for Baltimore in a brutal situation where he was brought in mid-season and expected to run the O right away (though brawltimore’s right that it was the Lewis injury much more than the QB switch that knocked them back a peg in ’01), and even Holmgren admitted it was a mistake to let him go as backup in Seattle. Nice, solid career.

Dilfer never got the credit he deserved in Baltimore but it was even worse here in Tampa. They guy had not one quality WR in his 6 years here. The Ravens should have brought him back for another year.
I can’t stand ESPN but do think Dilfer is a quality analyst. He and ‘Stink’ are guys who will actually criticize players and not just pander to them.

Jason Brookins and Terry Allen.
Dilfer’s job was to hand it to Jamal and limit mistakes. The Ravens wouldn’t have even made the playoffs if he’d have stayed in Baltimore.
So keep dreaming Uncle Rico.
