Redskins say McNabb is still the starter

After curiously being yanked by the Redskins late in Sunday’s loss to the Lions, Donovan McNabb remains the starter in Washington.

“He felt that with one minute left, [Rex Grossman] gave us the best chance to win,” senior V.P. of public relations Tony Wyllie told us via e-mail. “He was more familiar with the two-minute terminology and offense. McNabb is still the starting quarterback.”

Grossman played last year for Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, when both men received paychecks from the Texans.

Some may be skeptical about that explanation, especially since McNabb hasn’t been playing well this year. Also, given the manner in which McNabb reacted to a benched two years ago, it may be too late to undo the damage that was done when Donovan was left on the sidelines.
