The 49ers claimed outside linebacker Thaddeus Gibson on Monday off waivers, according to a league source.
Gibson was a fourth-round pick of Pittsburgh before the Steelers waived him. The Eagles also put in a claim for Gibson, but the 49ers had a higher priority.
The Giants also claimed Alex Hall off waivers from the Cardinals. He’s spent time with New York earlier this year.

Crap, if it was 4/1, you could have done a good gag and say Max Hall was claimed off waivers from Arizona after his stellar effort yesterday. Leinart would have bought it.
dammit. hopefully it’ll be worth it if aaron smith can come back by playoffs.
Championship.
Stupid move by the Steelers.
Yeah, they needed a d-lineman but they either f’d up the draft or f’d up exposing him to waivers.
Damn, I am sad to see this Gibson had some true potential, just stuck behind way too many good guys: James Harrison, Lamaar Woodley, Jason Worilds and Stevenson Sylvester.
Good for the 49ers and an unfortunate gamble by the Steelers.
I just hope JJ Watt from Wisconsin is still available when Pittsburgh drafts in April (anywhere from #18-32. Not guaranteeing a SB win, so easy on the jackass comments, folks. Just a realistic range of possibilities, that’s all).
Or the second round for JJ Watt, I suppose. Just plays like a combo of Aaron Smith and Jared Allen. High motor, never stops and is already 6’6 and 295-300 lbs. Dude will take on double teams AND collapse the pocket.
who?
