“Boatload” of teams expected to claim Moss on waivers, including Patriots

With 4:00 p.m. ET come and gone in New York, the official Tuesday waiver wire has been released. Per multiple reports, Randy Moss officially has been cut by the Vikings.

Since the trading deadline has come and gone, he is subject to the waivers process. One G.M. told me within the hour that he expects a “boatload” of teams to submit claims.

Of the teams expected to claim Moss, multiple league insiders believe the Patriots will do so as well.

Since the one-loss Pats currently are last on the priority list, the gesture would be the next step in the phony (from New England’s perspective) Moss love-fest, aimed at keeping his wings clipped if/when he plays the Patriots again.

In addition to the Patriots, plenty of other teams will be in play. As we suggested Monday, he fits the Jets’ profile for collecting veteran players -- and for tweaking the Patriots. This dynamic pulls the Dolphins into play, which in turn could prompt the 0-7 Bills to make the only noise they can in the AFC East by using their top position in the waiver process to claim Moss.

We’ll know the answer tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. -- or possibly sooner, if the Bills make the claim and opt to let it be known that they have.
