Patriots won't submit a claim. At most, they'll make a nice phone call to Moss's agent and say that in the event the player clears wavers, they'd be interested in a conversation. That checks off the we-still-love-Randy box and doesn't expose the Patriots to any sort of obligation to actually pay the guy (and if they do end up for some crazy reason bringing him back at the veteran minimum or whatever, Moss makes more money that way.)

Mike Daly says: New England has gone from a 36-points-per-game attack in the first four games to a 26-points-per-game attack...
To point out the part in the middle of your good observations, the Pats have scored 24 offensive PPG with Moss, and 24.7 offensive PPG without him. So actually, they've improved marginally...or at the very least, haven't skipped a beat while letting Moss go.
Remember in the Cincy game we had a pick 6 by Guyton and a punt/kickoff return TD by Tate. In the Miami game, we scored just about every way one can score..punt return for TD, pick 6 by Chung, and another TD via ST I believe...can't remember how specifically.

Why would any other team grab this guy off of waivers ....... think about it for a minute. He wanted out of New England, where he had it good, and his first choice - his FIRST choice, was the Vikings. The Patriots accomodated him on that, yet within just four weeks he was unhappy enough to force this release.
FOUR WEEKS....... with his FIRST CHOICE team!!!!!!!
How in the hell does any other team in the league look at that and think he's worth a $3.9 million gamble?
There's only one team where Moss is going to be happy and contribute. and that's New England, now that he realizes what he walked away from. Thirty other teams (not counting NE and the Vikes) can take a 3.9 million dollar flyer on him, and they may as well flush their money down the toilet. He won't be happy, and he won't be productive.
Belichick can come out of this helping New England; he got rid of Moss for a 3rd round pick, and gets back a rededicated Moss - at a bargain price, thanks to Childress - just as Deion Branch tweaks a hammy.
You morons bash this guy relentlessly, yet he proves over and over again to be the smartest SOB in football.

Childress stupidity doesn't equal collusion! Man, where do you guys come up with this stuff???
He would play a diminished role in New England, which is why he was traded in the 1st place! Randy believes that catches equals money!
The Patriots have won 3 in a row and sit atop the league at 6-1...Belichick will not alter his plans now! Unless Moss comes back via Free Agency at a reduced salary!
The only team I could see claiming him would be the Jets..Rex would do it to tweak Belichick!
Pick his brain, release Holmes?

"If he somehow lands back on the Pats, i would call for some kind of colusion investigation. Hey Randy, we need another draft pick, go to the vikes and then whine and complain so they fire you, we'll then bring you back"
@Tdk24
First of all the Pats always have more picks than virtually any other team because Belichick is such a genius with his draft day trades.
Second, knowing full well that most of the other teams would be ahead of the Pats on the waiver list the chances of them getting him back are tiny.
Thirdly, the Vikes took Moss on knowing his history and that he can be disruptive. If they chose to cut him how does that have anything to do with the Pats ?
Fourth, thanks for playing and making mentally deficient chipmunks everywhere look like rocket scientists compared to you. You can go back to your other conspiracy theories now.

Moss will be a problem for any team that tries to take him other than New England. I think he genuinely wants to come back to Foxboro and it seems clear the Patriots genuinely like him; they certainly respect his game, as evidenced by how much coverage they devoted to him in the Minnesota game.
The reality is the Patriots are the only team that would want him and where he'd actually fit - he knows the offense, he loves Brady, he loves Belichick (the trade was over his contract deal far more than over concern about his influence over the young D-back corps), he seems to now realize that fat contract he thought he was going to get is not there, and the Patriots offense genuinely needs him - New England has gone from a 36-points-per-game attack in the first four games to a 26-points-per-game attack, and the closeness of the Ravens and Chargers game was unsettling; and one must throw in that Deion Branch is hurting again.
I can't help but think, in the end, Moss suits up back in Foxboro.

"Since the one-loss Pats currently are last on the priority list, the gesture would be the next step in the phony (from New England's perspective) Moss love-fest, aimed at keeping his wings clipped if/when he plays the Patriots again."
Geeze Florio, you're speculations are getting almost as bad as Rosenthal's pathetic excuse for journalism.
Do you honestly think Belichick needs Moss to feel all warm and fuzzy to shut him down ? Really ? Bill Belichick ?
That's just laughable.

Even as a half-season rental, Moss could do a lot of damage to the Raiders' current attempt at resurgence. It would be more of a pre-emptive move on the part of Undead Al, to prevent the Chiefs from taking advantage of this situation.
Never thought I'd say this, but I'm actually happy that the Raiders' record is worse than the Chiefs.
Moss makes a lot of sense when you get to the .500 teams. Best part is, the team that acquires him will be getting a player in full-on audition mode for the upcoming free agency period.

Randy Moss is too honest. Yes, that's what I said. He does not play hard for a (in his opinion) losing team and he says so. How many other players are going to give 120% and risk getting injured for a team that is going nowhere? I would like to see a statistic on player injuries versus win-lose records. How many players at Buffalo are on the PUP list? How about Jacksonville? I love to watch football, and especially when it is played well and with spirit. This year I have watched the poorest level of play I have seen in 45 years. Something is changing.

How did he, in any way, destabilize the Pat's? I'm not buying into the hair-beard debate of 2010 one bit, personally. I'm pretty sure Moss had a similar beard in past seasons, so why would it be an issue come year 3?
Isn't collusion a Player's Union tool against teams that are in collusion against any number of players? So how could the Patriots be accused of collusion?
Even if I'm wrong and the scope of the rules regarding collusion are wide enough to cover this type of scenario, it would be almost completely impossible to prove the Pats could have known with any amount of certainty the Vikings would cut Moss loose after one post game rant.
I do think the timing of the trade and the specific team they chose for the trade was a logistic move. People are saying that the Pat's shipping him out for a 3rd round pick is a sign of how little the thought of him. I think it was done to expedite the trade and ensure the Vikings had the best possible chance to wipe the Jets out. Even though that didn't quite work out.
Expect the rest of this week in football to be all about Randy Moss because the only teams it seems he would want to play for likely don't have a shot at him through waivers, and regardless of what anybody says, some shmuck head coach, on a losing team, is trying to convince his superiors he can keep Moss on lock through the end of the season. Singletary anybody? He's already fired - he just doesn't know it yet -, so why not go for the gusto and pray for the best?

Moss is never going to try for any team with a losing record, so if I were a team like Buffalo or Jacksonville I wouldn't even claim him off of the waivers list. At the same time, if you're a team with a record better than .500 it might be worth it to look at him as an option. A team like the Dolphins or the Bears could definitely use him to their advantage. Lets also not overlook the fact that he has some history with Matt Cassell in KC while Brady was out two seasons ago, and is one of the reasons Cassell looked so good. I would be EXTREMELY shocked if Kansas City doesn't push hard to make this happen, and if they do get him I think KC becomes the team to beat in the NFC and may be Super Bowl bound!

Agree with others. Makes no sense for NE to place a claim on him. If he gets that far, he's a free agent and Minnesota has to pay him. At that point, he'd be a free agent and might agree to go to NE for the league minimum. At this point, several teams are interested and it won't make a difference. Miami would mean one more trip to Foxboro and one more presser for the man from Rand U. Nothing would beat that one.
