That checks off the we-still-love-Randy box and doesn’t expose the Patriots to any sort of obligation to actually pay the guy (and if they do end up for some crazy reason bringing him back at the veteran minimum or whatever, Moss makes more money that way.)

To point out the part in the middle of your good observations, the Pats have scored 24 offensive PPG with Moss, and 24.7 offensive PPG without him. So actually, they’ve improved marginally…or at the very least, haven’t skipped a beat while letting Moss go.
Remember in the Cincy game we had a pick 6 by Guyton and a punt/kickoff return TD by Tate. In the Miami game, we scored just about every way one can score..punt return for TD, pick 6 by Chung, and another TD via ST I believe…can’t remember how specifically.

First of all the Pats always have more picks than virtually any other team because Belichick is such a genius with his draft day trades.
Second, knowing full well that most of the other teams would be ahead of the Pats on the waiver list the chances of them getting him back are tiny.
Thirdly, the Vikes took Moss on knowing his history and that he can be disruptive. If they chose to cut him how does that have anything to do with the Pats ?

Isn’t collusion a Player’s Union tool against teams that are in collusion against any number of players? So how could the Patriots be accused of collusion?
Even if I’m wrong and the scope of the rules regarding collusion are wide enough to cover this type of scenario, it would be almost completely impossible to prove the Pats could have known with any amount of certainty the Vikings would cut Moss loose after one post game rant.
I do think the timing of the trade and the specific team they chose for the trade was a logistic move. People are saying that the Pat’s shipping him out for a 3rd round pick is a sign of how little the thought of him. I think it was done to expedite the trade and ensure the Vikings had the best possible chance to wipe the Jets out. Even though that didn’t quite work out.
Expect the rest of this week in football to be all about Randy Moss because the only teams it seems he would want to play for likely don’t have a shot at him through waivers, and regardless of what anybody says, some shmuck head coach, on a losing team, is trying to convince his superiors he can keep Moss on lock through the end of the season. Singletary anybody? He’s already fired – he just doesn’t know it yet -, so why not go for the gusto and pray for the best?

At the same time, if you’re a team with a record better than .500 it might be worth it to look at him as an option. A team like the Dolphins or the Bears could definitely use him to their advantage. Lets also not overlook the fact that he has some history with Matt Cassell in KC while Brady was out two seasons ago, and is one of the reasons Cassell looked so good. I would be EXTREMELY shocked if Kansas City doesn’t push hard to make this happen, and if they do get him I think KC becomes the team to beat in the NFC and may be Super Bowl bound!
