JaMarcus weighs 286, J.P. Losman also meets with Redskins

If you’re already sick of hearing about the Redskins’ quarterback situation, don’t worry: Tomorrow Randy Moss and Shawne Merriman will be on new teams, and we’ll probably hear more about them than about Donovan McNabb and Rex Grossman.

If you’re not already sick of hearing about the Redskins’ quarterback situation, we have some additional details about today’s surprising revelation that the team brought in JaMarcus Russell for a workout.

For starters, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that Russell weighed in at 286 pounds.

Although the 6-foot-6 Russell has said he’s working hard at getting himself into shape, the scale would suggest otherwise. At the scouting combine in 2007, Russell looked pudgy when he weighed in at 265 pounds. So if he’s now 21 pounds heavier than that, he probably has a lot of work to do on the cardiovascular endurance that Redskins coach Mike Shanahan says is so important.

The other news from the Redskins is that Russell isn’t the only former first-round draft pick who worked out with the team today. J.P. Losman, who was taken 22nd overall by the Bills in 2004, also worked out.

There’s no word yet on whether either Russell or Losman will actually sign with the Redskins. But they may just be there as part of Mike Shanahan’s continuing quest to show McNabb that if he can’t do things the way Shanahan wants, the coach will find a quarterback who can.
