On Monday night, Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney picked up a pair of sacks against Texans left tackle Duane Brown during a 30-17 Indianapolis win. On Tuesday, Texans coach Gary Kubiak claimed that he didn’t think about benching Brown during his first game back after a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy regarding performance-enhancing drugs.
“No, I never thought of making a change,” Kubiak said regarding the possibility of replacing Brown with Rashad Butler, who started the four games in Brown’s absence. “Duane is our guy and Duane did a lot of good things in the game too. He fought one of the all-time great players in football last night, not just this year. This guy has been doing this to a lot of people for many, many years and doing it there makes it even tougher. We’ve got a lot of confidence in Duane. We’ve put him in some tough situations. That tells you how much confidence we have in him. He can play better and we can also help him better by what we’re doing too.”
The Texans generally need to start playing better. Since beating the Colts to start the season, Houston has won three and lost three. With the talented Chargers coming to town on Sunday, a loss would drop the Texans to 4-4.
