Paul Allen and yours truly talk Vikings, Moss, and Chilly

We know that plenty of you love or hate the Vikings.  Some of you know that I appear every week with Paul Allen of KFAN to talk NFL generally and the Vikings specifically.

P.A. and yours truly talked about the current Minnesota mess on Tuesday morning, and several of you have chimed in regarding the spirited (at times) debate regarding accountability within the Vikings organization for the latest in a string of fiascoes.

You can listen to it via the KFAN website — my segment begins roughly 60 percent of the way into the horizontal bar.

The Vikings are a cellar dweller team at 2-5. Move on to pertinent NFL stories Florio.

I do admit though, I do enjoy the nice jazz in the background.

That was a good bit. I’ve heard alot of people here talk about how Allen ‘put you in your place’, but it sounded to me like every time he tried, you came back with a good argument and he conceded. He’s grasping for straws, stunned at the ineptitude of the purple pro-bowlers.

Just listened to first 20 minutes of this interview. These guys are horrible.

  6. jusford says: Nov 3, 2010 12:05 AM

The station should be re-named to KVAN (Kiss Vikings Ass Network). I swear a memo went out to all the purple colored comentators that it was all Moss’ fault. No one on the power trip morning show would call out Childress. Florio, how quickly you forget at one time you refered to Favre as “Lord Favre”. Guess it’s not as cute when he plays for your beloved purple. Enjoying the circus Viking fans?

    This just in:
Logan Mankins signed his tender offer with the Patriots today, and was immediately traded to the Vikings for 2 first round picks, and future considerations. One pick is in 2011 and one in 2012. The future consideration is he will be released in 4 weeks and return to the Patriots, after denigrating a high fat meal provided by a local caterer.

  9. AllDayAP says: Nov 3, 2010 12:14 AM

Childress not Cheerdress. You made nothing but assumptions as if the Vikings would lose every single FA on the team next year. That, in itself, was silly. It sounded like you didnt know what you were talking about.
Look, we all know you dont like Brad Childress. Look, we all know you dont like Favre.
Look, we know that you think you know more than you probably do, but you had nothing but speculation in your cute little rant.
Look, as a head coach you are responsible for the guys on the field, and he took a guy off the field who wasnt 100% into it.
Did you like my “Look,” stuff?

I couldn’t have said it any better than PA does in regard to the state of the Vikings.

You should take the time to ask him about Aaron Rodgers some time. It’s pretty comical how jealous he is that the Packers QB situation is more or less set for the next decade or so, barring anything unforeseen.

Jeezzz… and I thought you actually had someone important to interview, like the recluse owner of the Seahawks. Maybe he let you come to his billion dollar yatch! No luck, huh!
Who the he$$ is this Paul Allen?

I’ve commented on a couple of your threads, Mike, about the Randy Moss/Brad Childress debacle of this week (and the last several weeks).
I’d like to leave one last, well-thought-out comment. It made me think of Mike Singletary’s first comments as a head coach after his first game – they have to be slightly reworded & I’ll still put them in quotes & they apply…
“It’s all about HIM”. Can’t play with him. Can’t coach with him. Can’t win with him. Can’t do it.”
I wish every NFL team would take this as a mantra, repeating it over & over, as many times as it takes for the coaches/front offices to come to their senses & say, “What the eff were we thinking??”
This man, tho extremely talented, is a cancer in any locker room that he doesn’t see as worthy of him. He also seems to be a huge piece of Sh..crap as a human being. I wish he would get what he deserves…sadly I don’t think that’s the way it will go. I just pray he doesn’t end up on one of the teams I like. Eff off, Randy Moss!

Good Luck! PA is the biggest homer I’ve ever heard!

  19. Floriostoupee says: Nov 3, 2010 1:50 AM

Thankfully I missed that part of the show this morning.
Typically you spout one thing to P.A., then take a different position entirely on this site.
The fact you are promoting it makes me think this will be one of the few times you don’t do that.

  20. Wukong says: Nov 3, 2010 2:04 AM

God, Paul Allen is awful. It’s like listening to a learning disabled chimp try to talk.

  21. Mr$teve says: Nov 3, 2010 2:44 AM

According to you Florio, the Vikings are done for years because of having Farve return this year. They can get Mcnabb next year. They can still go on a big win streak this year.

  22. nfcnorris says: Nov 3, 2010 8:32 AM

“This is not Detroit, man. This is the Superbowl!!”

  23. Pastabelly says: Nov 3, 2010 8:33 AM

There are many that only hate the Vikings because Favre plays for them. Other than that, what’s to hate? They were to the 70′s what the Bills were to the 90′s, lovable losers of multiple Super Bowls. After this season, the circus will leave town and nobody will care about Minnesota. They will be playing many games at 1 pm along with Cleveland and Buffalo.

  24. Randomjim says: Nov 3, 2010 9:00 AM

Allen put you in a box so many times you had postage stamps on your head.

  25. Kyle H says: Nov 3, 2010 9:04 AM

PA slapped Florio around like a stepchild.
Really put him in his place. I cringed a couple times as Allen layed the wood to Florio.

  26. acs3 says: Nov 3, 2010 9:11 AM

2 out of 2 Randomjims agree Paul Allen won that argument.
    Meanwhile, everyone else… Ah, nevermind.

  27. merrillhodgestoupee says: Nov 3, 2010 9:12 AM

It is funny for a team that has not won anything, they sure have a lot of haters…
Move on people their is more to life than hating the Vikings.

  28. technoviking says: Nov 3, 2010 9:23 AM

Lets be frank, Paul Allen’s job is directly related to the vikings. his paycheck is directly related to the vikings organization. all i heard the first 20 minutes was excuses as to why the organization made this move and how his 3 sources who had no relationship with moss gave him the proof he needed to homer it up with the vikings organization and kiss the ass of the chump who coaches this over-talented team.
childress admits moss is there as a decoy, after 3 games of being a decoy id be pissed off too. and most other receivers, Ward, Johnson and any other #1 receiver being targeted for 2 or 3 passes would throw a hissy fit, thats their nature.
childress could at least face the man hes about to let go and not go about it the way he did. a coach should be like a manager and manage people, this event showed how irresponsible he is in facing the music. pull moss in the office and tell him hes done. dont tell the players hes done while hes not even around.

Oh, and add, “They’re getting what they deserve”

I’m not a Vikings fan by any means, but I’ve listened to a couple of their broadcasts on Sirius. One thing that really irks me about the Vikings broadcast team is they use terms like “we” and “us” when talking about the Vikings. I have not heard another NFL broadcast team do this, and I’ve heard at least one broadcast from at least half the league. I know every broadcast team are homers when they are supposed to be “impartial”, but c’mon guys; it’s like every other play. The Vikings don’t even write your checks, KFAN does.
I know its a small sample size. I could be wrong about other NFL broadcast teams, but Allen and company do the “we” and “us” bunch.

Agreed. Allen is completely obsessed with Packers personnel, and that’s been going on since he was with Dubay.

  38. Wukong says: Nov 3, 2010 11:29 AM

Allen didn’t put anyone “in their place.” He sounded like a whining child. Didn’t even know which players on the team he covers were enterting free agency. He’s a gas bag AND uninformed.

Florio would never say that about his favorite sports franchise.. Especially not on a radio show which is “financially influenced” by the same team. Paul Allen will always say exactly what Wilf wants him to. Just like the Ted Press-Gazette in Green Bay, the days of unbiased media are long gone.

Well, it has and it hasn’t. The quote I heard from McNabb was the standard I-want-to-stay-with-my-current-team-because-I-like-it-here type of quote. I don’t think he said anything specifically about the Vikings. But he did say he wanted to extend his stay in Washington.
