Words of wisdom from a chronic benchwarmer. what a joke! Easy for Hasselbeck to go full tilt at practice. Because he was never nursing injuries from getting beat up in a game. When I played years ago (ole Wisconsisn Badger), it always made me chuckle at some of the pathetic suckups who went all out at practice. Then stunk up the joint when called upon in a game. Mind you, this was not all players. Just a noticeable few. Many and most players practice hard and play hard. But one has to remember. D McNabb plays very hard. And he is usually pretty beat up during practice week (just like Favre). Shanahan should respect that. And that weasel Hasselbeck never figured it out because he was always riding the pine!

This is just absurd. It sounds to me like the media is latching on to any story they can just so they can blame someone for the Redskins not doing as well as everyone expected. Sounds to me like Shanahan is trying to shift blame away from himself. After all, he's the freaking head coach, and he is ultimately responsible.
So let me see if I get this straight: McNabb isn't practicing up to pace. Shanahan wants to "send him a message". So instead of, I don't know, talking to him, he benches him for the last two minutes of the game? Doesn't make much sense to me. Why not bench him for a whole game?
Of course, it's perfectly possible that Shanahan is just a moron who does stupid things for stupid reasons, and actually thought this might work.
It's amazing how many utterly terrible coaches there are in the NFL right now.

You're one of the bigger idiots I've seen on here in a while. How would McNabb make this current team 6-2? Speaking as an Eagles fan, I admit they have many holes but oddly enough, the QB situation hasn't been the problem so far. Please develop more of a football IQ.

I'm appalled by the media reporting on McNabb. First of all, Tim Hasselbeck? Who is he to criticize ANYONE, let alone a player with hall of fame credentials? Here is what I know about Tim other than he is married to a crazy tea bagger. In 2003 he had the lowest possible single-game passer rating (0.0) in a 27-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He retired as an NFL joke with a 63% passer rating? A guy who sits atop the QB trash heap is now the ESPN expert when it comes to NFL quarterbacks? Give me a break, only in America!
I have been in Philadelphia for 30 years and watched a biased media pick Donovan apart to find any flaws they could. Never did I read or hear any of the hard-core Philly media report anything close to what Hasselbeck has claimed as fact. I'm amazed that the supposed esteemed national media doesn't find out the what is true and what is made up stuff with this story. Doesn't a man with the high character of McNabb at least deserve fair reporting from the major news outlets? I can excuse the Philly rags they call newspapers. I can excuse the amateurs that call themselves bloggers. I can excuse the ignorant tribe on talk radio but I cannot excuse ESPN, NBC Sports, etc.. Within a 24 hour period I have watched one of the greatest CHARACTER athletes ever have his character trashed by a little general coach and a willing media without one shred of actual FACT. Donovan has spent his entire career fighting SUCCESSFULLY to disprove the racist stereotype that a black man is not intelligent enough to play QB or that they don't have the work ethic. And despite a career with OVERWHELMING evidence to the contrary, the media accepts those very stereotypes as fact without any old school reporting to find truth. Like Brett Farve, the media treats Mike Shanahan as a white god that can do no wrong. And like Bret Farve, the media is more than willing to serve as Shanahan's lap dog and protector. I guess the politics of the day have even started affecting sports reporting. Disgraceful!

If Hasselback can't make a comment because he wasn't a good pro, then Mike Tomlin should not be a coach in the NFL because he never played in the NFL.
It doesn't matter that it's "just Tim Hasselbeck" saying it. By the same logic, who are you to criticize Tim Hasselbeck when you probably couldn't make your high school football team, let alone play in the NFL.
Regardless, it's not just him either. It's Shanahan, Reid (who also benched him), former teammates Hasselbeck and Freddie Mitchell, and many Philadelphia fans and local sports media.
I've been saying it for years as a "trade McNabb" guy, and it's nice that we're finally proven right after taking so much crap to go against the party line. When we go to training camp and see him slouch around the field, it speaks volumes.

This practice situation is rediculus. If he is that out of shape and practice that bad, then why let him start, play almost the entire game (he had taken all the snaps this season), and now act like he is sending a bad message to the team.
Who is Tim Hasselbeck to criticize anyone? That's like the 16th man on an NBA squad criticizing the star player. Tim, you weren't good enough to make it in the League and now you pile on literally like a Monday morning QB. You have no credibility at all because you worked like a dog and still couldn't make it. Scary as it is, Kordell has more stroke at ESPN than you do.
I wish you and your wife would just disappear from TV.

What's with all the Tim Hasselbeck bashing? Since when did you have to be an All-Pro QB to OBSERVE a teammate's practice habits? His professional career has nothing to do with his observations of McNabb.
He's an analyst. Thus his job is to analyze and give his insight/opinion. He's had direct practice experiences with McNabb in the past, which certainly allows him to speak on that matter with some validity. How many of you can claim that?
But hey, let's just continue to criticize Hasselbeck's playing career and use that as a measuring stick for his validity as an analyst/former teammate. That seems to be the norm around here. Basically, "You sucked as a player, but even though you actually saw him practice with your own eyes, your word is still B.S".
Makes perfect sense to me.

McNabb is our decade's Boomer Esiason. VERY good QB, but several glaring weaknesses and no rings.
But he is not a HOF'er.
And now he can't even protect the ball all the well, which is what his resume is all about at this stage.
I admire the Skins fans, who are largely bypassing the "he needs more weapons" stage and going right to "maybe he isn't all he was cracked up to be" stage.
Took us a decade.

Latch-Key Kid,
No, he can make any statement he wants, we just don't need to listen because since he sucked when he played, what credibility exactly does he have to tell us what it takes to runa 2 minute offense since he never did it successfully. He has no clue what it takes. put me on TV if anybody's opinion matters. Former player perspectives are valid because they can relate from similar experiences, which we've all established he has none.
It's why I don't watch the BSPN circus with their collection of mediocre and never was players dominating the screen, while the NFL network does employ players for the most part that were actually good so their points are always valid.
It's like Florio's criticism of Matt Millen, he's among the worst professional sports GM ever. Therefore, his points are invalid. If you notice, the guys who actually played at high levels like Phil Simms, Dan Marino, Steve young, etc. generally don't do that nonsense because they had the experience of knowing how difficult playing at that level is.

@THEILLATRUTH: are you serious? I'd like to see you do your job successfully, while 300+lb men are in your face from the time your day starts, til the time you go home, throwing you on the floor all day, and slamming you into the ground. How could anybody be successful in those working conditions? Not saying he is a top 5 QB, but put the blame where it should be. The 'skins can change QB's as often as they want, but until the o-line is addressed, any QB will suck. Not to mention, his biggest wideout is what, 5'10? Yeah, that works out great in the red zone. All the QB's fault, as usual.

How embarrassing these people look defending McNabb. He's a great QB? He's the 25th rated QB in the league right now. He's awful.
You don't believe the reports about his practice habits? Seriously? Reports of his laziness and inability to read and adjust to defenses was well documented in his time in Philly.
He is a lazy passive aggressive turd who throws his teammates and coaches under the bus whenever he gets a chance. He hasn't been a top ten QB since 2004 and he is barely top 25 now.
Some of you people must either be sad delusional Redskins fans or are smoking the whacky tabbacky
