"Stiller idiot" here. I refuse to type in all caps, and won't set foot in a WalMart. Apologies if my words are too big for you.
What I find entertaining about James Harrison is that the man is what, 4 feet tall? Honestly, look at how short he is. But he still weighs as much as I do, and he's all muscle, with thighs like tree trunks - the man can move. Now that said, consider how difficult it must be for a 6'8" offensive lineman to get an arm around him and try to "stand him up" when he's already standing up... Talk to an offensive lineman someday if you get the chance, that is priority number one for the position: Stand up the pass rushers, so your weight advantage shifts momentum and takes away their leverage.
There's a perfectly logical reason for him getting held all the time, whether you think it is fair or not, or on purpose or not. It does happen, and happens a *lot* more than it does for linebackers that are a foot taller. The tape don't lie :-)
Surprised at all the Ravens fans that hate Harrison. I'll wager if he played for your team you would all follow him off a cliff. He plays hard on every play, tries to be a complete linebacker - and works very hard on coverage and does many things your prototypical pass rusher wouldn't dare try - and he does it very well, well enough to be called the Defensive MVP.
Really, no more Ravens fans hating on James Harrison. It just makes no sense, man! Ravens fans are defense-hungry fiends, and a good player is a good player, no matter the team. Counterpoint - if someone told me my Steelers had managed a trade for Ngata, I'd bang my head on the ceiling from jumping up and down so hard. Imagine a four-man line with Ngata and Hampton inside!
/me runs off to fantasize about a defensive line that could crush a small elementary school with their bare hands, in one single pass.

Well perhaps Commissioner Goodell could learn to tell the officials to start calling holding calls on the offensive tackles that can't handle Harrison. A couple of years ago, James Harrison was Defensive Player of the Year. Ever since then there's been a concerted effort to help offenses deal with his playing skill, namely holding. It almost never gets called. But there it is on film.
Just make the call. Blow the whistle. The play stops and the precious quarterback is saved for another play. And if the left tackle can't deal with Harrison then it's time to get a new offensive tackle.
GO STEELERS!

Phokus
you are the typical person that has no clue about football, Pittsburgh is on the bad end of a call 9 out of 10 times. Games that are fixed are for the ravens, jets, Patriots. Steelers have never had a fixed game, get over the fact that they win when the win and lose when they lose. Harrison never gets a holding call and if you noticed he is the only one that they are applying the rules to. What about that guy that hit Farve helmet to helmet split his chin. He won't get fined. So tell me how are the games fixed?

lots of people do get held but no to the extreme of Harrison. And when Pit holds it is called usually so you could go powder your nose.

@ I didn't hear no bell.
"Harrison is a nobody who hits hard and in many cases, illegally. Take that away from him and he'll be exposed for what he is."
Possibly the dumbest comment I've read on here to date. James Harrison was the defensive player of the year in 2008. He should have been the MVP of Super Bowl XLIII or at least co-MVP. He had the greatest play by a defensive player in Super Bowl history but you call him a nobody. He has 16 forced fumbles in the the past 3 years (4 more than any other defensive player in the same amount of time) and you call him a nobody. Too funny. Watch much football or do you just spew nonsense all the time?
I hope James left that meeting and handed GODell a blank check. Saying that he is a FOOTBALL PLAYER. Not some pussy that is gonna bow down to "the Commish" and stop playing with the desire and skill that he has learned over his lifetime. The sad thing is that sooooo many fans, players, coaches and owners would love, love , love to have a tough SOB on their team. The haters hate because of their loyalty to another team. The Steelers have an identity of employing hard nosed players that give everything they have, on every play and never give up. They draft tough players and teach them their system. Run the ball and stop the run and win Lombardi's. Hate all you want (and us Steelers fans love the hated because it means we are doing something right) but this is a proud franchise that has done things right for many decades.
Go Harrison, Go Tomlin, Go Dan & Art Jr. God bless the "CHIEF". And most of all, GO STEELERS.

If you truly believe that, then you must be drunk or high while you watch the games. Everybody gets held all the time...it's not just Harrison. Even objective Steeler fans (all nine of 'em) would say that the Steelers get more than their fair share of "game-changing" calls.

MDS, if Harrison requested the meeting, how was he called to the principal's office? I understand the temptation to go for the tantalizing head, but you should have an internal caution light when it comes to veering that far over the truth line.
Massaquoi was a bad hit. Goodell should have capped the fine at $50,000 simply because he made the issue more about Harrison than about the NFL's renewed commitment to enforce its longstanding policy. James is a passionate guy. He got upset and took it too far. But he'd finally notched it back and the whole thing had died down ... when this needlessly stirred it up again.
It was a late hit on Brees, and the flag was appropriate, but that should be the end of it. I honestly don't know whether the NFL is contemplating a fine or whether that's just something bloggers have concocted. It's admirable that James is taking Colbert and going to the horse's mouth to get an explanation. This particular horse tends to talk out of both sides of his mouth, but at least James is handling it in mature fashion this time. Let's wait and hear how it goes.

You clearly know nothing about football. The Steelers would have still won that Superbowl even if that wasn't a touchdown. Do you recall the time Polamalu was robbed of a pick in the playoff game against the Colts? Or how Harrison never gets a holding call when he is basically raped on every other play? 9 out of 10 times Pittsburgh is on the bad end of a call. So my point is even without that touchdown in the Superbowl Steelers still win and they have had consistently bad refs, especially because Harrison and Woodly are held combined up to 60 to 70 times a game and they have only had 2 holding calls this season. That's bad officiating. Harrison was saying he was going to retire because the rules clearly only apply to him and also that's how he learned football, so he was not being a baby when he said that.

PARavensJeff: Ray Lewis has a clean record, no criminal charges on it, he got probation for what he was charged w/ & then wiped clean after he served the probation for a year. So in reality, you have nothing to say about Ray Lewis because he has a clean record.
Yeah, Ben has a clean record, too (no arrests, no charges, no guilty verdict), and he got suspended for 4 games--so if that excuse works for Ray, then it better damn well work for Ben (in other words, your Ravens fans have to stop calling him a rapist if you want us to stop calling Ray a murderer)
But this is about a Steelers player going to meet with the Commish about the way the game is and should be played. What other player has done this?
Then again, some of you will definately say the fix is in and he's going to bribe Goodell.

This is a classic example of a very lazy reporter, Smith, making up a false headline. The second paragraph of the linked story to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette (the second link in this article) clearly states: "It was not clear who requested the meeting with Goodell,..." What part of "It was not clear who requested the meeting..." can Smith not comprehend? So the typical anti-Steeler writer comes up with "Harrison *gets called* to the principal's office" lie. The sad thing is that you can bet Smith won't even bother to acknowledge his lie or correct it.

Ok - so what was the excuse last year? 8-8
