Percy Harvin not happy with the release of Randy Moss

NFL_harvin3.jpgWe reported in the wake of Monday’s stunning decision by the Vikings to cut receiver Randy Moss that talented second-year wideout Percy Harvin was “livid” over the development.  And with coach Brad Childress taking a “go ask them” approach to media questions about whether the players had concerns regarding the departure of Moss, some in the media decided to do just that.

Harvin spoke with Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.  Though Harvin apparentlky chose his words carefully, it was clear that he’s not happy with the situation.

“We kind of looked at him kind of like, ‘Are you serious?‘” Harvin said of the team’s reaction to the news.  “It came out of nowhere.  It caught a lot of us off-guard.  But that’s
coach’s decision.  If he felt that was for the betterment of the team,
then that’s what it is.”

Asked if he was disappointed or angry about the move, Harvin said, “For me it’s a little bit of both, but
it’s part of the business.  I just have to move on and
this team has to move on.  We’ll be fine.”

So what did Childress say about the decision?

“The explanation, we really didn’t get one,” Harvin said.  “I’m just
not trying to feed into it too much.  It is what it is.  This team has to
move on.  This offense has to move on.  We’ll just take it as that.”

The possible bad news for the Vikings is that Harvin has spoken to Moss “several times” in recent days.

“We’re
friends and we’ll remain friends  The things he taught me I’ll continue
to use that to elevate my game,” Harvin said.  “The only thing that’s changed is we’re
not teammates but we’re still in contact.”

Why do we have a feeling it’s only a matter of time before Harvin isn’t playing for the Vikings, either?

God damn right he is mad, he looked like a superstar coming out the slot with the double on Randy, now he eats the double or the other guy focuses on tackling Peterson, either way, the Vikes are a worse team for it.

  2. The Hogster says: Nov 3, 2010 4:01 PM

Percy knows that now he will be mis-used again as an edge receiver. Way to go Childress. You found a way to look dumber than Mike Tan-ahan this week.
    That was no easy feat.

  3. btg19 says: Nov 3, 2010 4:01 PM

This is EXACTLY why Moss is gone. The Vikings did not not Moss poisoning Percy any more than he already has.

  4. FinFan6886 says: Nov 3, 2010 4:01 PM

There seems to be some kind of egotistical diva training program for NFL receivers…that’s a damn shame.

  5. paoconno says: Nov 3, 2010 4:02 PM

The Vikings next coach Jon Gruden will find a way to get Percy the ball next year AND keep him happy.

  6. Macleod says: Nov 3, 2010 4:02 PM

Childress is the cancer on this team. Only two guys have spoken with the willingness to give their names. Harvin & Favre are both unhappy because they know the team isn’t as good today as it was last Sunday. And isn’t that the bottom line? If you’re a Vikings fan, do you want guys with good table manners, or guys that will help you win ball games?

  7. Ford Prefect says: Nov 3, 2010 4:02 PM

Florio, I know you are a Vikings fan. I hear you on with Paul Allen all the time. Why do you always take the “Sky is falling” approach to this team? Is it the Rube in you that is just mad at Childress? Is it that you want the Vikings to move to LA? Is it that you just want to say, “I told you so”? What? So much venom from you lately.

  8. bosanac says: Nov 3, 2010 4:05 PM

Dude take it wasy Florio .. last time I checked dude has 5 years left wit the Vikings (Harvin) .. you’re a real Ducher sometimes

  9. texasPHINSfan says: Nov 3, 2010 4:06 PM

    Come to Miami Percy!
I’m half tempted to make a “we should trade for him RIGHT NOW” comment to elicit 100 “trade deadline has passed” comments from people :-D

  10. da_skinolas says: Nov 3, 2010 4:07 PM

Any wr teammate of Moss will be pissed when he leaves, he opens up the field for every body else! Percy looked like a pro bowler over the past 4 weeks, we’ll see if that continues from this point on. Mr. Welker hasn’t did much since the trade, but that isn’t significant because the pats win. If your not winning stats become a little more important!

  11. JimmySmith says: Nov 3, 2010 4:07 PM

Percy is doubly mad; first he will see more double coverage which will cut down on his production.
More importantly, Moss had a better weed connection and so Percy is back to smoking the 2nd rate stuff while Randy’s main supplier leaves town to follow Moss to his new team. Just notice how many headaches Percy gets in the next few weeks after Moss leaves.
But to be fair, if you had to sit in the locker room and listen to Col Klink pontificate on football when he is clearly clueless, you would have headaches too.

“Why do we have a feeling it’s only a matter of time before Harvin isn’t playing for the Vikings, either?”… so, Florio, or should I call you “Gossip Girl”, who’s this “WE” you’re talking about, and why are you starting rumors, Percy was asked a question and he answered it…

Come on Mikey! where the hell did you pull that one out of?(Eww…please don’t tell us) Listen bud, that is just crazy.Harvin is a Viking. Are you short of help Mikey? I would be glad to write for you. Unlimited call girls and an open bar tab is all I ask for my literary genius….

“Harvin isn’t playing for the Vikings”… Wilf will fire Childress before getting rid of Harvin
I don’t understand why teams are in such hurry to sign their coaches to an extension… the Bengals didn’t give Marvin an extension last year despite reaching the playoffs(yes, their management includes a very cheap owner but still) & look how they are playing this season

  16. AFCroxNFCsox says: Nov 3, 2010 4:12 PM

The worst thing the Vikes could do right now is play their hearts out against the Cards and save Chilly’s job for him. They need to go out there and tank this game just like they have already done 5 times this season. Once Chilly gets fired, they can try to salvage the season. Better yet, tank the rest of the way out and make up for the draft pick they gave to NE.

  17. sven_ftw says: Nov 3, 2010 4:13 PM

i’ll pretend i never saw that last line.
but i will blame childress if it comes to fruition!

There will be quite a few big name guys that won’t be playing for the Vikings anymore in the near future. But Harvin would be wise to not attach himself too closely to Moss. Perception is everything in the NFL, and Harvin doesn’t have Moss’s talent to fall back on when it comes to teams putting a player’s baggage aside in the name of talent.

  19. SteveO says: Nov 3, 2010 4:15 PM

Yup, Chilly is bound and determined to ruin the whole team before he’s fired. Idiot!

sorry but i didn’t get a sense that harvin was livid or upset. he actually sounded very calm and collected.
what was that little quib about him not being with the vikings mean exactly?

  23. Skeety says: Nov 3, 2010 4:20 PM

Harvin is obviously very pissed. I’m the ONLY one on twitter that he’s replied to about Moss. And all he said was “@ScottVKF its all good cheer up!”

Given that all players stop playing at some point, of course you are correct. Just like PFT won’t always be with NBC.

Once Sidney comes back, the middle will open up again for Percy, and he will be all smiles.

  33. Ilovefoolsball says: Nov 3, 2010 4:39 PM

If Percy is smart he’ll get off that sinking viking ship before it starts to take on too much water. He should go to a team that has a chance of at least a winning record this year and a head coach that knows how to do his job.
…oh and also he should get out of that miserable town. The fanbase there is really bad.

  34. TiceWasBetter says: Nov 3, 2010 4:45 PM

Sidney, however, isn’t as fast as Moss but has just as good ball skills and jumping…

Way to go Chilly. God he’s such a dickhead

  38. sand0 says: Nov 3, 2010 4:56 PM

As I predicted, Moss’s presence benefitted Harvin more than anyone else. Allowed him to work from the slot usually with a one on one and no help. He was feasting on it.
Players have always generally got along with Moss. But the guy can be a pain the the arse for thin skinned coaches.

  39. Mooch says: Nov 3, 2010 5:01 PM

Harvin could be a mix of Wes Welker and Eric Metcalf, he reaches full speed after a couple of steps and gets downfield.

If that is the case that oscar-mayer-photo-artist Brett Favre should have been the first to go.
Also, let me get this straight, you have sidney Rice coming back soon. With him you would have had Moss, Rice, Harvin, AP and Shiancoe. Even if Moss takes plays off, that’s a nightmare for just about any defense. I’m not a Vikings fan, but I think I’m with Harvin on this one.

  43. cheeseweasel says: Nov 3, 2010 5:45 PM

Earlier in the day it was Chili’s lack of support from the fans that was going to ruin support for a stadium, then the Republicans getting elected signaled an end to the Vikings stadium and the Vikings in Minnesota. Now Percy Harvin talks to Randy Moss and he wants to leave Minny? You’re not reporting rumors, you’re making them up. If you’re off the Vikings bandwagon, good, stay off it. Just quit reporting every sneeze or fart that happens at Winter Park. We won’t miss them.
