Randy Moss is a Titan

The man who has been a gigantic pain the the ass can now be a Titanic pain in the ass.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean first reported that the Titans have been awarded Randy Moss via waivers.  A source close to Moss tells us that the player is expected to report to the team.

The move means that none of the 21 teams ahead of the Titans made a waivers claim.  It remains to be seen whether any of the next 10 tried to get him.

And so Moss goes from a team that had Adrian Peterson to the team that has Chris Johnson.

The Titans are off in Week Nine.  They play at Miami on November 14.  Other teams on the schedule over the second half of the season include the Redskins, the Texans (twice), the Jaguars, the Colts (twice), and the Chiefs.

The Bears don’t put in a waiver? They desperately need a WR. The whole front office needs to go. I am a very sour Bears fan.

I was really hoping that the Bengals grabbed him. There hasn’t been nearly enough drama this season.

  4. Neverend says: Nov 3, 2010 4:28 PM

This already makes them a favorite to get a wildcard in that video segment you posted earlier, florio. An offense with kenny britt, randy moss, and chris johnson? Superb. A lot of people dont know, but vince young is extremely accurate when it comes to the deep ball which will help Moss.
No more 9 players in the box with the safeties holding the edges against chris johnson. This helps him out tremendously, wow. I’m glad my team already played the titans (and lost, lol)

  5. MrJames says: Nov 3, 2010 4:28 PM

21 teams passed on him. 1 more than on draft day. And he still holds a grudge about that until this day.

@Bucs7-9 – Why would he not play for them? They had one of the biggest point differentials in the league and the most points scored in the league before last weeks game. This is a championship caliber team.
And yes, this will open up massive lanes for CJ. Perhaps another 2000 yard season isn’t out of the question afterall.

  55. flapjack1231 says: Nov 3, 2010 4:40 PM

Dolphins don’t need him nor would he cure their problems. Miami needs an explosive RB, a LEGIT TE threat & a safety to replace Bell, who could cover TE’s.
With that said, I was hoping to not have to face Moss again. Him & Vontae started to have a competitive rivalry going. IF Moss shows up & wanting to play, unlike in MN, watch out for the Titans. They may be the team to beat in the AFC. If not, there’s no loss for Tennessee. If it don’t work out, oh well.
I think Moss half assed it in MN because he wasn’t utilized well. No excuse, but this is Childress fault. You don’t bring in a guy like Moss to run curls & slants. He had the one big play as a Vike against the Jets and thats about it. Him not going for the ball against NE was more about not coming back to haunt the Pats. He could have caught that. Either way, if Moss is content, he could make the Titans a champ. I find it hard to believe he has completely lost it. Even without the blazing speed, his in the air ball skills are legndary.

  56. FMRDB says: Nov 3, 2010 4:40 PM

If he plays, and by that I mean shows up and actually makes an effort, this puts the Titans in the drivers seat for the AFC South and probably moves them up a few notches in the overall AFC totem poll.

  57. Youngs79 says: Nov 3, 2010 4:41 PM

So much for Fisher’s take that 30 teams would want him. It took 21 teams to pass on him to get to Tennessee. They can have him! When he takes plays off, misses blocks on purpose, or is just bored and disinterested they’ll wish they never had him.

  77. Jeff George Rocket Balls says: Nov 3, 2010 4:51 PM

Randy Moss played against Jeff Fisher and the Tennessee Oilers (yes, still the Oilers) during his rookie season. The final game of the Vikings 15-1 season in 1998 was a win at Tennessee during Fisher’s second season as the team’s coach. Moss had five catches including a short TD via a leaping grab in the corner of the end zone.
Tennessee, of course, passed on Moss in the 1998 NFL Draft. They selected the only WR who went ahead of Moss (Kevin Dyson, Utah) at pick 16. Dyson played six seasons total in the NFL and is most remembered for for two plays that live on in Tennessee lore (and NFL lore, for that matter): He scored the TD in the Music City Miracle and he was tackled at the 1-yard line for the final play of Super Bowl XXXIV.

  81. sand0 says: Nov 3, 2010 4:53 PM

Bengals would have been hilarious. Titans are a team he can probably make an impact with. Moss is best when you have a strong running game and a QB who isn’t all that smart and benefits from constant safety over the top and a guy you can just heave it up to.
Of course Moss did well with the Patriots and all but I really think he’s maximized when you have a team with a struggling or young QB. He made Daunte a star for a while there IMO.

    And replace it with this:

This already makes them a favorite to get a wildcard in that video segment you posted earlier, florio. An offense with percy harvin, randy moss, and adrian peterson? Superb. A lot of people dont know, but brett favre is extremely accurate when it comes to the deep ball which will help Moss.

Vikings fans said the exact same thing.
The most overrated WR now gets to hang with the most overrated coach in the NFL. Jeff “I’ve got a grand total of 2 playoff wins since 2000 including 1st game losses 2 years as the #1 seed” Fisher.

  96. texasPHINSfan says: Nov 3, 2010 5:11 PM

What’s the over/under on whether Randy even reports to the Titans?

  97. Mosi says: Nov 3, 2010 5:12 PM

As a Pats fan, I just did a fist pump! YES! They play the Colts twice, and the Dolphins, too. I bet TN is going to be a good spot for him. Yet, TN might not be a danger to get into the playoffs or be a high seed, so Pats may not see him again this year (not that he did much damage in the MN game – since they didn’t throw to him, the losers.)
PLUS, Patriots are not forced to take/not take him, and they can keep up the “we really love you, Randy” charade until the end of the season.
I hope the Jets were good and excited about getting him, and paid $1000′s on that steak dinner he took them for this week.
Thanks for the 3rd rounder, Minny, I hope you lose the rest of those games so it’s a good, high pick… just like the Raiders and Panthers in the 1st and 2nd.
You’re the best, Bill. Love you, man. lol.

I heard the food sucks there too.

  99. skinsfan85 says: Nov 3, 2010 5:16 PM

The Skins are killing me! Thatcould have really saved their season. I guess they thought he wasnt in shape or something!

  100. Mosi says: Nov 3, 2010 5:16 PM

… and by the way… with Young or Collins chucking it deep to him and forcing teams playing the Titans to choose between him and Johnson, he’s going to tear it up. Going for the contract. Fisher is a good coach. Lots of good food in Nashville. Lots of games against dome/fair weather teams. Chip on shoulder.
Just watch. Randy isn’t done yet.

  101. Dan Mateus says: Nov 3, 2010 5:17 PM

Randy had Favre,Petterson and Harvin and they went 1-3.
Randy was on a team that went 16-2 and didn’t make it to the super bowl and was on the team that went 18-1 and didn’t win the super bowl. See a trend?

  102. Macleod says: Nov 3, 2010 5:20 PM

    STATS do not lie…
So, was Moss a cancer to a team, or did he help his team? Let’s ask Wes Welker and Percy Harvin.
With Moss: Welker had 26 catches for 217 yards and 3 TD’s (4 games).
Without Moss: Welker has 14 catches for 102 yards and 0 TD’s (3 games).
Without Moss: Harvin had 12 catches for 106 yards and 1 TD (3 games).
With Moss: Harvin had 19 catches for 287 yards (169 in last 2 games) and 3 TD’s (4 games).
I don’t care if Moss takes a nap on the field, he draws double coverage and opens up the middle. And, simply put, he improves your team. Nice move Childress. Way to take a small situation with a caterer and a presser and turn it into the story of the year and an embarrassment for your organization.

  103. PirateFreedom says: Nov 3, 2010 5:22 PM

When you have a break away, home run RB like CJ you absolutely need the legendary blocking of Randy Moss to maximize those long runs.

  104. gravy18 says: Nov 3, 2010 5:26 PM

Another sign of a desperate team making a desperate move trying to catch a team in their division that they can’t compete with.

  105. B.O.R. says: Nov 3, 2010 5:27 PM

Hey “Quincy Carter,” who is the highest rated QB in the NFL this season? Vince Young. He has 9 tds and only 2 ints.
So are you just a hater or are you actually that dumb?

  106. igster says: Nov 3, 2010 5:29 PM

i’m surprised ol danny boy and the foreskins did’nt grab him up.haynesworth on defense and moss on offense wow what a show. shanarat would leave town.

  107. CaptainFantastik says: Nov 3, 2010 5:30 PM

Jeff Fisher is NOT a pushover and is more in the mold of a Bill Belicheck type, just more willing to talk to the media.
Two thumbs up to the Titans.
    —————————————–
Wait…..so Moss just wrote his own ticket out of NE (Belichick) a month ago with his attitude and his mouth but Jeff Fisher is going to keep him in check? Yeah okay.

  108. Benny Mendenberger-Ward says: Nov 3, 2010 5:33 PM

Randy Moss might be the best coach Vince Young ever had

  109. pistolpete says: Nov 3, 2010 5:35 PM

This has to be a good pick up for the Titans.
As someone on this board said, coaches like Fisher & Belichik are the one’s who can get knuckleheads to play along.
Even if Moss doesn’t put up ProBowl numbers, he is going to keep the defense guessing…….fasntasy football owners, it is time to sign up CJ.
I can see Titans making the playoff as a wild card (Considering the fact that the Titans could be against the Fins for a wild card playoff spot, the next game is huge for both teams)

  110. Silk32 says: Nov 3, 2010 5:35 PM

Great pick up by the Titans. There is a reason Moss has been passed over by teams — GM’s are more concerned with what the media thinks than in winning games. To all you “Moss Haters”, he has scored more TD’s in the history of the NFL, second only to Jerry Rice. Randy Moss is “that dude” >> http://clicky.me/ThatDude

  111. Profanity in ALL CAPS says: Nov 3, 2010 5:39 PM

    yo! what up tennessee!
    /my favorite moss sound bite.

  112. PimplePopperMD says: Nov 3, 2010 5:40 PM

Are all of you mental wishing this turd was picked up by your team? Also, Titans fans, you’re delusional if you think this is going to go as smoothly as you think it will.
Just four weeks ago, all of the Vikings whiners were crapping their pants at the idea of Favre, Peterson, Harvin, etc. and how did that work out for them? It didn’t. 1-3 with Moss on the roster.

  113. habman says: Nov 3, 2010 5:40 PM

When he gets there, they can all talk over old times. Like last year when Patriots thumped them 59-0.

  114. Brian Spears says: Nov 3, 2010 5:43 PM

Again Bruce Allen and Mike Shannahan are really intelligent they could of had Moss for nothing. But no we only like players that are retread’s and passed their primes that cost us lots of high round draft picks. Allen did work for the Raiders and he did ruin a really good Tampa team to. Shannahan had 2 good years in Denver many years ago. But atleast we still got big play Joey Galloway and Roydell Willliams. I guess in the end it does not matter you can’t go deep to Moss with the offensive line they have put together anyways.

  115. foofeiter says: Nov 3, 2010 5:43 PM

It’s amazing to see how many stupid people post to this blog and actually are PO’d that their team didn’t take a chance on Moss. The man is a cancer, he will do nothing in Tennessee, and will pout the whole time there while dragging the franchise down with him.
The man is a cartoon and a shell of what he once was. The stats don’t lie, he’s averaged 40 yds a game the last 16. He’s done people, and he knows it, it’s why he is completely psychotic at this point.
    What a bunch of bozos.

  116. Bamboozled says: Nov 3, 2010 5:45 PM

The dude is a distraction on and off the field. Simple as that. He’ll stretch the field and Britt will probably benefit like Harvin.
Everything will be gravy until he loses a little confidence and gives up. At that point he’ll probably go smoke one at the club to reflect. His reflection will be interrupted by a Kenny Britt punch to the face. Boom.

  117. Tdk24 says: Nov 3, 2010 5:51 PM

Is Tennessee far enough south to get gourmet grits served in the locker room?

  120. Red_Zone_Junkie says: Nov 3, 2010 5:58 PM

  121. jever says: Nov 3, 2010 5:59 PM

Will be interesting to see if Fisher can control this clown!!! If he can, and I doubt it, it will prove how big of an idiot Childress really is.

  122. georgeanderson says: Nov 3, 2010 6:00 PM

The Dolphins must be saving money to bring in a “Dancing with Stars” pregame show on their plaza. Because as we all know, if you give them nightclubs and reality show performers, they will buy tickets.
The circus is in Miami Gardens, the real show in Miami is at the Triple A.

  123. Bdrunk says: Nov 3, 2010 6:02 PM

I still maintain that Moss would have been a good solider for almost any other team than the Vikings.
He is playing for next year’s big contract so you should see a good effort. But stuck with the Village Idiot in Minneapolis, he decided to get out while he still could. He realized the Vikings were inept so he acted out.
Now watch him go on a roll for the rest of the season.
