Report: Moss spent Tuesday with Jets players

When word first emerged that the Vikings would be parting ways with receiver Randy Moss, my first thought was that the New York Jets would make a play for him.

Craig Carton of WFAN reports that Moss spent Tuesday meeting with members of the Jets.

“Randy Moss, I’ve learned, was in Boston Monday, and was in New Jersey
yesterday
.  Meaning, you’ve got yourself the Patriots and the Jets
talking about Randy Moss,” Carton said during his daily morning show with Boomer Esiason.

Carton reported that the meeting with Jets players occurred “at the same spot Mark Sanchez likes to frequent near his home.”

Though we don’t think Moss stayed in Boston after Sunday’s Vikings-Patriots game because he knew he’d be getting cut by the Vikings, we think that the visit with Jets players on Tuesday was no accident or coincidence.

But even if the Jets want Moss, they’re currently standing at a position in the line that gives them a low level of priority.  The Dolphins, by virtue of their 4-3 record, have dibs on Moss — and they could claim him and block him from going to New York.

It doesn’t matter if Moss doesn’t want to play for the Dolphins.  If it’s clear that he wants the Jets and the Jets want him, the Dolphins would be foolish not to make the claim and simply put Moss on ice if he chooses not to show up.

Moss is and always will be a front-runner. As long as he’s getting the ball and his team is winning, he will play.

  2. Deegizzle says: Nov 3, 2010 9:22 AM

Would this make Moss the first player ever to face a team twice and then suit up for said team, all right at or before midseason?

  3. Infidel says: Nov 3, 2010 9:22 AM

The problem with the Jets is Mark Sanchez.

Rex has never met a cheeseburger he didnt like.

…and what if he decides to play ball? Then you have to cut someone on your team for a player you don’t really want? Yeah…they’d be foolish not to…

Report: I got a salad for lunch yesterday…Florio, what is this site turning into, TMZ? Who cares if he spent time with some Jets players? He has to go through waivers, where 20+ teams will have a crack at him before the J-E-S-T-S.

This was all a master plan by the Patriots, Moss is scouting for Cheatin’ Bill since he can’t video tape opponents…..seriously, would you be surprised?

I spent Tuesday at the pub – doesn’t mean I plan on asking for a job there…

  9. Sumeria says: Nov 3, 2010 9:28 AM

Foolish of Miami? That doesn’t account for 367K per game paycheck, and or… the fact that he could be a cancer for your team.
It might be prudent financially and from a chemistry standpoint to let him go to the Jets to let him destroy them.

  10. tritan306 says: Nov 3, 2010 9:29 AM

    Seriously!?! These Jets are pathetic..
You can surround Sanchez with the best receivers in the world but you cant make a dollar out of fifteen cents.

  11. FlipDaScript says: Nov 3, 2010 9:29 AM

Shocking- Moss spending time with another collection of turds (Jets).
What a waste of talent and ability he’s become. He was such a non-factor in the last couple of weeks it wasn’t even funny.
LMAO that the Vikings traded a 3rd rounder for that guy!

  12. Ralphie says: Nov 3, 2010 9:30 AM

I pray that Moss goes to the Jets. It aint happening anyway because Moss won’t drop to the Jets. That would make great theater however it he did. Ryan patterns himself a “players coach” (code for “Rex swallows”) who’s guys love him. Moss is a whole different beast than LT or Cromartie. But Ryan’s ego will make him think he can tame Randy. NFW. The only way you’d tame Randy is to give him the long term contract he wants…because that’s all this immaturity is about. He’d blow that sh*t up. By the way, Ryan isn’t half the coach that Belichick is…Jets fans would have you believe different, but Ryan hasn’t won a f’kin thing except his annual Sept-Oct. SB wins. If BB wanted Moss out of town even with Randy loving the Pats the Pats to death Ryan would never have a chance.

Regarding the MN caterer: Here is their menu. You can see this place is not a four-star restaurant, but it’s comfort food, and it was free. To most men, being a jackass when offered free food, is beyond comprehension. And they had just finished playing — they had to be starving. Insane. What a dick.
Still, with all that being said, they had to know what they were getting themselves into with Moss’ acquisition.
Here’s a picture of the Tinucci’s, with Gus and his wife in the back:

Here’s their catering menu online. Dunno. Just figured I’d copy and past that, as well.

Moss has been a cancer on every team he’s played on. If the Dolphins are smart they will let him go to the Jets and watch the melt down in N.Y.
BTW, all the talk about a team claiming him to block another team is foolhardy. You need to have a place for him in your lineup, you have to pay him, and you have to like having a player who doesn’t give a hoot about anyone.
    He isn’t just a prema-donna, he just doesn’t care.
As a Patriots fan, I hope the Jets get him. Mr. Ryan will have him by the throat before that trip is over.

First of all, Craig Carton’s a freaking moron. Try listening to that show for 4 seconds without getting an overwhelming urge to punch Carton in the face. I’d take anything that douche has to say with a large grain of salt.

  26. georgeanderson says: Nov 3, 2010 9:53 AM

Steve Ross is the “Ringmaster”, he runs a circus in Miami. What an embarrassment of a franchise with their minor baseball league antics to attract fans. If they pick up Moss it would only be because they are so desperate to sell tickets in any manner.
Moss can help a contender. Dolphins need to fix their coaching & QB situation before they drag another veteran into that clown car they call a stadium.

  27. bruinscup says: Nov 3, 2010 9:54 AM

My grandmother is a bad cook. Obviously the Tinnucci’s spread wasn’t up to Randy’s level. Taste. Brett eats possum stew, so of course it was a 5 star event to him.

  28. Rex Grossman says: Nov 3, 2010 9:57 AM

Moss is green. Money is green. The Jets are green. The plant the Jets grow in their basements is green. Rex Ryan just ate a bowl of green gummy bears. All signs point to NY.

  29. Patsfan1776 says: Nov 3, 2010 9:59 AM

If you ever wore a Pats jersey the Jets want you. Millions of stories of Pats fans going down to NYC for the weekend and Rex Ryan trying to sign them when he sees them sporting the Flying Elvis or Pat Patriot logo.

  30. Just JTO says: Nov 3, 2010 10:00 AM

Moss is a dick and he will never make it to the Jets … They are too far down the waiver claim list. I mean, seriously. But I wish he would fall there because they would all deserve each other.

  31. Surgicallyrepaired says: Nov 3, 2010 10:03 AM

Everyone knows that he won’t make it to the Jets on the waiver wire, but I could see him ingratiating himself with Rex and the boys for a free agent signing next year.

Florio, c’mon that news is already old and a total bore. What else ya got?

  33. BornSlippy says: Nov 3, 2010 10:05 AM

Yeah Moss wont get frustrated with Sanchez and his popgun arm. The Jets just like to hear their names in the news. Now the Jets will have 4 recievers who are pissed off and a qb who will be crushed. I thought holmes, edwards, and LT were suppose to be this awesome offense, yet they get shut out at home with 2 weeks to prepare against a crippled D. Sanchez is trending down just like he was last season.

  34. fortysixand2 says: Nov 3, 2010 10:08 AM

Carton reported that the meeting occurred “at the same spot Mark Sanchez likes to frequent near his home.”

  35. Lord Harry Latts says: Nov 3, 2010 10:09 AM

It’s obvious that a lot of guys want to play for the Jets. They have a good thing going over there.

  36. edubs23 says: Nov 3, 2010 10:12 AM

Any team that still has to play the Pats this year should think twice about claiming Moss… especially if the game is in New England (e.g. Jets & Dolphins). If you don’t beat the Pats w/ Moss on your roster you know what you’re going to get.
Chilly got fooled once… shame on Moss. The next coach/team will have already seen this go down… shame on them.

  37. DarnSkippy says: Nov 3, 2010 10:13 AM

He would be a great fit for the Jets and give them a complete set of wide receivers.
Edwards: puts in great effort in catching hard passes and drops easy passes
Holmes: Consistently drops every type of pass thrown to him.
Moss: Puts in no effort to even try to catch the pass.

  38. Dawn says: Nov 3, 2010 10:23 AM

Randy Moss is getting his ego stroked every which way but loose.
Loose is, of course, being saved for Favre. ;-)

  39. BornSlippy says: Nov 3, 2010 10:24 AM

Its not that everyone wants the jets its that the jets want everyone who has or used to have a name. The media eats it up like woo trevor pryce to the Jets…even though price has been a jag for 4 years.

  40. SomeFans says: Nov 3, 2010 10:24 AM

Sanchoke is a loser period. Time will tell all for this poser.

  41. Dawn says: Nov 3, 2010 10:28 AM

Maybe Moss can join the Jets’ arrogant streak.

  42. HateSycophants says: Nov 3, 2010 10:28 AM

Are you jackasses still bitching because Randy didn’t like his meal? He didn’t say a word to the caterer. He gave his opinion to his (former) teammates.
Hey gregjennings, do you know how many players are bitching about a catered meal right now$ What you think is comfort food might be crap to everyone else.
What the hell is wrong with you football fans?

  43. Iron Wolf says: Nov 3, 2010 10:30 AM

  44. ForrestGump says: Nov 3, 2010 10:34 AM

Nice that he thinks he can shop around and decide who he wants to play for…

  45. Macleod says: Nov 3, 2010 10:36 AM

I’ll say it again, what makes you think Moss didn’t orchestrate this after spending 4 weeks with Childress? Have you seen Childress’ press conferences? He’s a bigger dick than Moss is. Moss insulted a caterer? Within the last month Childress has insulted his QB, the NFL refs, and the local reporters. So what? So don’t invite Moss to your Xmas party. You don’t cut the guy.
Watch Percy Harvin the rest of the season. When you start to wonder why he’s not getting open or getting the ball, just say to yourself; “oh ya, because Moss didn’t take the corner, safety, and linebacker with him down the field”.

  46. FinFan says: Nov 3, 2010 10:37 AM

i find it best to just click on the links that take you to the real stories. if you read those then it’s very stark how much PFT writers are willing to stretch the truth and extrapolate things with no basis, oh and my favorite which is taking things out of context.

  51. protectthishouse54 says: Nov 3, 2010 10:58 AM

    georgeanderson,
If I do recall, the Jets were slashing prices like crazy trying to sell tickets before the season to their pretty new stadium over in JERSEY. Half-priced parking or some crap so they wouldn’t have empty seats on opening night. The Dolphins have no such problems selling tickets. I’ll take our level-headed coach over your babbling gigantic goofball any day and I’ll take our self-made QB over your pretty boy Mexican.
That said, screw Randy Moss. I doubt Randy would handle being “put on ice” very well. You’ve got to worry about your own team… not someone else’s. Plus, the addition of Santonio Holmes has only made Sanchez and the Jets paranoid about spreading the ball and harmed their offense. Add Moss who needs the rock more than anyone in the NFL and see what happens then. Just keep getting further and further away from the ground game that got you to the AFCCG last year.

  54. JP says: Nov 3, 2010 11:14 AM

@ “why wouldn’t Bills claim him and then auction him off to the highest bidder ?”
Because we are past the trade deadline. So the Bills can’t trade him. They would have to pay the remainder of his salary for this season (~ $3.4 million) and then he would be a free agent after the season is over.
So in order to auction him off, they would first have to sign him to a contract extension so that they have his rights beyond the end of this season–and we all know, there isn’t any chance in…heaven…of that happening.
