When word first emerged that the Vikings would be parting ways with receiver Randy Moss, my first thought was that the New York Jets would make a play for him.
Craig Carton of WFAN reports that Moss spent Tuesday meeting with members of the Jets.
“Randy Moss, I’ve learned, was in Boston Monday, and was in New Jersey
yesterday. Meaning, you’ve got yourself the Patriots and the Jets
talking about Randy Moss,” Carton said during his daily morning show with Boomer Esiason.
Carton reported that the meeting with Jets players occurred “at the same spot Mark Sanchez likes to frequent near his home.”
Though we don’t think Moss stayed in Boston after Sunday’s Vikings-Patriots game because he knew he’d be getting cut by the Vikings, we think that the visit with Jets players on Tuesday was no accident or coincidence.
But even if the Jets want Moss, they’re currently standing at a position in the line that gives them a low level of priority. The Dolphins, by virtue of their 4-3 record, have dibs on Moss — and they could claim him and block him from going to New York.
It doesn’t matter if Moss doesn’t want to play for the Dolphins. If it’s clear that he wants the Jets and the Jets want him, the Dolphins would be foolish not to make the claim and simply put Moss on ice if he chooses not to show up.
