At least one Titan didn’t think the team needed Moss

The Titans collected and sent out ten quotes on Thursday from Randy Moss’ new teammates and offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, all expressing how excited they were to work with Moss.

Our favorite is from Chris Johnson, who says he’s always called a successful jump ball recepetion, “getting a Moss.”

The team is clearly trying to make Moss feel welcome and we have no doubt the majority of the team is excited. Notably absent from the Titans’ list, however, was wide receiver Nate Washington. (Or any wideout for that matter.)

Here’s what Washington had to say to Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean on Wednesday, before the team claimed Moss.

“I don’t really think we need him,” Washington said. “I’m going to speak up and say that we have so many good young guys. If it so happens he does come to this locker room, we’ll find a way to make it work. That’s the type of guys we are. We aren’t individuals . . . We have a team goal in mind. That’s what we’re reaching for.”

Washington’s opinion is in the minority and Moss’ track record shows that he usually gets along especially well with his receiver group. Washington may feel a bit threatened, though. He was set to be the team’s prime deep threat with Kenny Britt out.

“It wouldn’t bother me if he walked in tomorrow,” Washington said. “That’s something we’re going to have to deal with. As far as me speaking up for our group, no, I don’t think that we need him right now. We have a lot of young guys who have been working hard to come out and play on these Sundays.’'
