Someone’s feeling smug today. The NFL isn’t paying Harrison, the Steelers are. The Steelers have made it clear that they think the new rules are ridiculous. Only saw it once without the usual 20 replays, but I didn’t think he led with the crown of his helmet. It looked like his hands were out in front of him and he was pushing. I don’t believe he should be fined anymore than James should have been fined for the hit on Brees. And I don’t believe he will be fined because his name isn’t Harrison and he wasn’t wearing a Steelers #92.
The good news is that neither Harrison nor Tomlin had anything public to say this week, so Goodell has made his point. That means James probably won’t get fined tomorrow night. But it won’t surprise me if Polamalu does. The master requires complete obedience.

Harrison has been playing by the rules, as the still photos show; that’s the complaint. Try to keep up. I wouldn’t vouch for the personal character of my next-door neighbor. But since I’m familiar with James’s life story, I do probably have a better idea of his character than the people whose only knowledge of him is the uniform he wears. Watch all the sacks of Matt Schaub v. Indy from last Monday night. At least twice, the Indy defender hit Schaub helmet-to-helmet. But since none were named, Harrison, I guess it’s ok.
Goodell and Anderson are making statements, not enforcing rules. If the were enforcing rules, 20 players would be fined each week.

If you figure in percentages of salaries/fines, the fine only equates to about a speeding ticket fine for the average joe. I really don’t see the fuss about it. He wasn’t ejected and he wasn’t suspended.

The child’s mother allowed the dog access to the child when he wasn’t home, you idiot. I don’t like pit bulls, but he’s hardly the only parent in America to own one. And rather than have the dog put down, he arranged for it to go to a facility that specializes in working with problem animals. He hopes to become a veterinarian after football.

From some of the info I’ve looked at it seems as if there were 10 roughing the passer calls and 3 helmet to helmet hits last weekend but only 3 fines dished out for them?

somesome, exactly how many Steeler games do you watch? Not many apparently, or you wouldn’t have said Harrison cannot tackle.
Also, do you have stats on how many offensive plays that defenses are giving up? The Steelers defense keeps the opposing offense off the field more than other teams. If your defense sucks and the opposing offense is on the field for many plays, of course you have more chances to tackle somebody since the opposing offense is running a ton more plays on average. Duh.
And somesome says “All he does is hit”. What is this, tiddlywinks?? Give me 11 players on defense that hit and play the way Harrison does, and I’ll take it any day.

Yes, there are only a handful plays each week out of some 1,500+ that are being fined. Aways has been. It just moved into the media’s lime light.
Harrison has been OBVIOUSLY warned. He does not even make an attempt of wrapping Brees up. He brings his arms up for a split second and takes them back down without even touching Brees, he then hits him with his helmet.
Sorry, but that is p!ss-poor technique. That will get you fined every single time.
Harrison is fast and hard to block over the outside. But that is it, he truely is a very limited OLB who cannot tackle. Harrison is tied for 36th in tackles in the league currently. All he does is hit, that is all he can do. If this is the only way he can be effective he will continue to be fined.

Yes, Just to be clear, not that long ago this hit would not even have drawn a flag. But, it was a bit late so I won’t quibble with that. But to fine him 20K is simply an atrocity.
It wasn’t hard enough to even rattle Brees. He was not hurt on the play. The hit was not even remotely close to vicious. The NFL has essentially made a new
rule: any late hit to the QB will carry with it a 20K fine.
And I expect that for EVERY late hit flag or I will assume an anti-Harrison or anti-Steelers vendetta by Goodell…

It’s just so wonderful having the NFL (American’s Passion) hijacked by testosterine-deficient pansies whose only experience with a football is hucking a Nerf around with their 6 year old daughter in the back yard.

Yes, it was a late hit but not vicious. There are no vicious hits anymore in the NFL. Most of you have apparently forgotten. When the player is on the ground and the medical team is bringing over a board to slide the player onto because they dare not move him. THAT IS A VICIOUS HIT! And I’m glad those hits are gone. I only mention it as a yardstick for comparison.
Most of you are just parroting what Commissioner Goodell considers to be good policy. This is all moot anyway. I doubt there will be any football in 2011. At least, not the football I remember.

Questions for the NFL:
1-Is there a system in place in the NFL today where ALL plays are reviewed for possible illegal and/or dangerous hits?
2-If so, are ALL plays reviewed or only plays that are brought to the NFL’s attention by the media?
3-Who are the adjudicators who review these plays? 4-Why have late hits and unnecessary roughness penalties (both called on the field and not) typically not been fineable offenses in the past if they have not resulted in any injury?
5-Are all late hit and unnecessary roughness penalties now going to also result in fines and suspensions going forward?
Question for the media: why is no one asking the NFL these questions?
