I’m still trying to understand why the team would be required to disclose Brees’s injuries. As long as he’s cleared to start, what difference does it make if he has an undisclosed fracture?
Of course, it would make a difference if you were betting on the game. But I don’t think NFL teams should have to make disclosures about players’ health–which could have a competitive impact on the game–to accommodate gambling interests. So unless the league is … um … in league with Vegas & Atlantic City, why is disclosure an issue???

Brees is fine – he was even doing dropkicks for the press at practice today lol
Wilkerson, as others have said, should never ever be used as a source for anything Saints related.
For those who mention the Browns game as proof that Wilkerson maybe right, I think that the reason why his game was somewhat off had a lot more to do with the fact that Brees became the father of a second son five days before that game, and anyone who has just gotten a new baby knows it takes a few days before everything gets all back to normal again.

You guys need to do an update on this. Both Payton and Brees deny the report. Payton might be sketchy when it comes to being open about injuries, but Brees wouldn’t blatantly lie in my opinion. Also, reporters who are actually allowed on the premises at the Saints’ facility like Jeff Duncan and Peter King expressed doubt because they witnessed Brees in action in practice and he looks fine.

I am not a” sue everybody” person, in fact HATE that mentality that now permeates this country, but that is absolutely DISGUSTING of that guy to spread lies like that when it could ruin people’s careers and lead to fines. I hope the Saints put this guy out of business FOREVER.
Also I am 100% behind any coach who lies to protect his players anyway. I don’t care about the effing injury report. Gambling blah blah blah. So what? A coach should be able to protect his players by not letting opponents have clues to their weaknesses and any rule that circumvents that I have utter contempt for.

What about being #3 in Passing yards and #8 in QB Rating (92.6) and #1 in Completion Percentage (70.7). Bad game with alot of injuries and bad play by several people.
Could it be true possibly but not sure 1 game becomes the proof. Incidentally, last year he threw 3 INT’s against Miami (58.9 Rating) – guess the MCL was injured then too right?

Here’s Payton’s official response to the rumor;
Coach Sean Payton denied that QB Drew Brees has a fracture and torn meniscus in his left knee. Payton said a published report about supposed injury was totally inaccurate. “It’s not right,” Payton said. “Completely false. This week, he’s without the brace, sleeve or anything.” A league source said Brees laughed when he heard the report.

1) I love how people trust head coaches to give accurate injury information
2) I’m sure this guy is full of it, but then again, look at how off the saints have been. Look at Brees knee injury.
3) Too many of you are arguing semantics. If he said a meniscus is torn and it will eventually need microfracture because he’s playing on it torn, that make sense. Ignore the fracture part; we all know he’s not a medical doctor and probably got his circuits crossed.

I stopped listening to WWL when he was on the air because of all of these empty, no evidence statements that he makes from all of his “sources”. He never gives any evidence or support for the outrageous claims he makes. He always makes promises that he has information that no one else has, yet never says whatever the information is. IF YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS THEN SAY IT, GIVE SOME PROOF, ISN’T THAT WHAT JOURNALISM IS???
What good is having a source if all you ever get from them turns out to be some veiled speculation in the public’s eyes?
Florio, do yourself and your website a favor and never quote anything again from Kenny Wilkerson. If you do you’ll be posting a lot of “maybe’s” and “what ifs” all the time with all of the speculation he provides from his “sources”. Do some research on him and you’ll see this isn’t his first go ’round with making FACTUAL CLAIMS about things that are just pure speculation.

Gotta respect Drew Brees, he doesnt use injuries as a ready made excuse for his failures like Favre and even my fave QB, Big Ben. He just goes to work. Sort of makes sense now, that terrible ballgame against the Browns was so uncharacteristic of him. He was probably using that game to learn how to play with the injury and it didnt turn out well.

The way he played in the second half against the Steelers, you would never know he was injured. It was like he was back in the Super Bowl again. In any case, I wish Drew the best. Only one more game until the bye, which I imagine is much needed.

MSWRaven has the description of microfracture surgery exactly right. I just had it. It is about a 6 week recovery period just to walk without pain never mind the rigors of the NFL. You can play through it up to a point depending on the extent of the tearing but it can be pretty painful.Hard to imagine being an NFL QB and doing it.
