Surging Lions rebound from blackout with sellout

Last weekend, plenty of tickets to the Lions’ game against the Redskins went unsold.  As a result, the game wasn’t televised locally in Detroit.

This weekend, the victory over Washington and the impending arrival of the New York Jets has resulted in a much different outcome.

The game has sold out, with ease.

As Tom Kowalski of mlive.com points out, there’s a direct correlation between winning and ticket sales (something that isn’t necessarily true for other cities, like Tampa).  With the final five home games against the Jets, Patriots, Bears, Packers, and Vikings, there’s a good chance that each one will be sold out.

Surging? Ahahahahah! That’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard!

  2. NYMets says: Nov 4, 2010 6:44 AM

Naturally the game has sold out. The Jets are coming in with their array of stars including the head coach. The Jets are like the Yankees of football. Fans all over the country want to come out and see them.

You say ticket sales go up when the Lions win, but their next 4 games are against teams that are better than them. And you say these games will be sold out? I don’t understand. Maybe you meant that ticket sales go up when they’re supposed to lose, so Lions fans can be subjected to the misery?

    Surging?

  5. Buck Stallion says: Nov 4, 2010 7:00 AM

Saying the Lions are surging isn’t anywhere near as funny as the Vikings sucking this season.

New York team coming to town solves a lot of ticket selling issues.

  7. Kisstherings says: Nov 4, 2010 7:14 AM

Tampa is an aweful sports town. I once bought a Rays/Red Sox playoff ticket at the gate

  8. MrMojoe says: Nov 4, 2010 7:15 AM

Lions beat Jets this Sunday. Sanchez won’t be able to handle the pass rush.

  9. mookieburns13 says: Nov 4, 2010 7:32 AM

If any of you commenting actually watched the Lions you can not say for certain that the Bears, Packers, and Vikings are better then them. They played the Vikes and Pack tough on the road nearly beating both with a back up QB, and I don’t care what anyone says the beat the Bears in Chi, they will will most likely lose to the Pats and Jets but they will beat the others. I have been a Lions fan my whole life, I never bought in the Joey era, or the Martz era, but this is a different team from the past decade. There will be a whole lot of you not laughing anymore when they start knocking some of your teams out of playoff contention come the end of the year (no I am not saying they will make the playoffs). Lions will surge the second half winning five of the last eight to finish 7-9.

They are surging compared to your sorry imploded team.
We’re not the same old “sorry Lions”.
We’ve cleaned house and are only getting better!!

I wouldn’t say they’re “surging” yet but with Stafford back, they will be soon.

Now that’s FUNNY!!!! I was thinking more like Ringling Bros. But not the one time champion Jets/Yankees comparison.
You know Fat Ring leader, tons of side show freaks like half WR half drunk and the DB with so many kids he can’t name them all.
    Come on MAN!!!!

Surging is absolutely right. They are the highest scoring team in the NFC and are on the brink of a real turnaround.

  14. AHS says: Nov 4, 2010 8:21 AM

If you don’t think they’re surging, you’re not watching them. You’re just judging them by the albeit lengthy losing past.
As for you NYMETS, you can drop the arrogance! Detroit fans don’t get creamy in the jeans over the Jets or any other team, we’re too proud and too loyal. The Lions are better than their record and are wreaking havoc on quarterbacks plus Stafford is finally healthy and began his return “rusty” with 4 touchdowns, 3 to Calvin Johnson.
The game is sold out because the Lions are finally giving the fans, their moneys worth.

  15. rockcity says: Nov 4, 2010 8:49 AM

Ok, ok. I will school you guys up. Now, most people do not know this because they do not watch or follow the Lions. But…the Lions are 6th in the NFL in scoring and 1st in the NFC. Ahead of GB, Phi, NO, and everyone else in the NFC. On Defence, they are 11th in the NFC. 3rd in sacks though. So, for you guys who are asking about “surging”, i would say yes they are. Oh, let not forget the 2 wins that were taken away with horrible officiating. Wk1 TD that was called back and Wk2 with a non-call pass interference on J. Maclin for the win. I will get off my soap box now.

  16. sthelen45 says: Nov 4, 2010 8:55 AM

Aww, come on guys. Can’t us Lions fans ever have a little fun? Let us please enjoy the fact that he said “surging,” as incredibly untrue as it may be.

  17. lions51 says: Nov 4, 2010 9:04 AM

    Thats right, Surging!
The Lions actually have 23 sacks to Jets 15, and more takeaways (17 to 14) and interceptions (8 to 5) than the Jets.
The Detroit Lions will be beat the New York Jokes…….I mean Jets! GO LIONS!

  18. bspurloc says: Nov 4, 2010 9:29 AM

what do the lions have to do with it??
the sell out is all JETS fans…… dumbass

  19. CallousTongue says: Nov 4, 2010 9:33 AM

The Lions are on their way up. Good for them. If the rest of the NFC North doesn’t take them seriously, they might be in for a surprise.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they finally crawled out of the basement this year with how bad the NFC has been.
That’s if Stafford stays healthy. Which isn’t likely. GL anyways.

I am a Packers fans but I would pay to watch the Lions – they are a fun team to watch.

    ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
The Jets will beat Detroit this week by 3 Td’s ….27-3 Final:::;what makes you think your going to score on this Defence,G.B couldn’t…and that 130+ yrd a game yo give up on the ground is going to go up after this game….Not a chance in hell the Lions win this game…

  22. sthelen45 says: Nov 4, 2010 9:56 AM

Ok, seriously. I understand that it’s hard to consider a one game winning “streak” as surging. However, this team gets better and more competitive every week. Once they learn how to win close games at the end, which they are slowly, they will be a tough out every week, as they already appear to be. I’m not saying they’ll beat the Jets, but some Jets fans better think twice before guaranteeing their team will win.
As for you bspurloc. Really? You think Ford field will be full of Jets fans? You mean the same Jets fans that were called quiet at their own stadium last week? Hahaha, good one. Half of you arrogant Jets fans probably won’t even turn the TV on because you assume your team will just crush their opponent. It’s hard to win if your offense doesn’t score points, and last I checked, it’s been awhile since that happened.

Wish the Lions the best of luck on Sunday. We put on a terrible game versus the Packers so hopefully this will be one to watch.

  25. simple_simon1 says: Nov 4, 2010 10:14 AM

First, good on all my fellow Lions fans letting people on here know what’s what with the Lions this year. We’ve been so bad for so long that people don’t watch and pay attention to how good we’ve become. Here’s a hint: out of 7 games played, 5 of them have been on NFL Replay because we’ve been playing that close with the top teams in the NFL every week. We’ve had one of the hardest opening schedules of any team in the entire NFL and are playing them all very tough.
Second, this weeks game. Going to be very tough for both sides. I remember going into games against Green Bay, Philly and the NY Giants, nobody gave us a chance. Well, we almost beat every one of them and every one of them, after the game, came out and said specifically how hard it was to beat us. This game is a tough one but, trust me, it will be no cake walk to beat us at home.
If the Lions can keep Stafford from being injured (please don’t be a Band-aid) and keep the Jets running game in check, even a little, forcing Sanchez to throw, this game will be very interesting.

Long time Jet fan here, and I agree with you completely, Avrus. Never easy being a Jet fan, but we hang tough each season.
sthelen45, you have no idea what you’re talking about. But you are talking some pretty good trash, aren’t ya? Can’t speak for everyone, but this “arrogant Jets fan” watches every week.
