Roy Williams: "We can win nine in a row"

I made a plea in our NFL picks post this week to stop talking about the Cowboys once and for all after this Sunday night’s game.  That means we need to get our shots in while we can.

We’re going to present two sides of the Dallas Cowboys’ current 1-6 equation.  In this first post, the delusional:

We can go nine in a row, if you ask me,” wideout Roy Williams told ESPNDallas.com’s Tim McMcMahon.

“People can call me stupid or whatever, but this football team has the core of players, it has the supporting cast of players to win nine in row. We just got to get it started just for other players to be like, ‘All right, we got it now.’”

“It would be a great storybook ending,” continued Williams. “It would be awesome. I don’t know if they’d put us in the Hall of Fame for that if this [team] was going to go on and win the Super Bowl, but it’s a tough feat to cross.”

We’re going to speak on behalf of the Hall of Fame, here.  If the Cowboys win the Super Bowl, yes the entire team can go in.  Even David Buehler.

  10. Sam Axe says: Nov 5, 2010 9:58 AM

Of course they can win 9 in a row. Winning is one of the 3 possible outcomes from a professional football game….especially one where one team plays another team. It is also possible to tie 9 in a row. It is also possible and painfully likely that the Dallas “Fighting Roy Williamses” will lose 9 in a row.
The team has a core of players and a supporting cast that sucks. The only hall they’re going to is the Hall of Suck.
In other news, Cowboys WR Roy Williams is being checked for brain damage due to incoherent and utterly stupid statements made to ESPNDallas.com.

  11. Bell63 says: Nov 5, 2010 9:59 AM

I don’t see why not, if they get their act together. That’s not to say they are some amazing team, but stranger things have happened to lesser talented teams.

  12. BigBear123 says: Nov 5, 2010 9:59 AM

Any team “can” he would be an idiot if he said they “would.”

  14. ejtowne says: Nov 5, 2010 10:02 AM

This guy is delusional. I am a believer in Buffalo, but even i know that they won’t win nine in a row. So Dallas… who lost their starting qb making the SB, sure OK.

  15. JetLove214 says: Nov 5, 2010 10:02 AM

Roy and Michael Irvin must have made up, and he hit up Mikes drug stash. Not only do the cowboys need to clean house on the coaching side of the ball. Now it’s apparent drug screening is in order. Hey Mr. Irvin stay away from Dez!!!

    Funny ass Roy

  22. magician300 says: Nov 5, 2010 10:05 AM

Cowboys chances of winning nine games in a row > Braylon Edwards’ chances of going two straight games without a dropped pass.

  23. FloriosHairHat says: Nov 5, 2010 10:06 AM

You’ll be lucky to win one more game, let alone nine.

  24. Krashie21 says: Nov 5, 2010 10:07 AM

    I’m a diehard Cowboys fan…..
But Roy Williams’ statement should serve as the foundation for an immediate policy in the NFL on concussions and brain injuries.
Here’s hoping the Roger Goodell responds quickly and decisively, because it’s clear that Roy needs an MRI, CT-Scan and all available assistance.

  25. Jeremy says: Nov 5, 2010 10:07 AM

Hate the Cowboys, but good for him. Never say die!

  26. Alydar says: Nov 5, 2010 10:08 AM

  29. St8_Ca$h_Homey says: Nov 5, 2010 10:09 AM

  36. Spungy says: Nov 5, 2010 10:12 AM

  39. Louis says: Nov 5, 2010 10:15 AM

Cowboys have trouble winning 1 in a row and Roy says they can win 9 in a row. LOL

  40. dietrich43 says: Nov 5, 2010 10:17 AM

“Our expectation is we will be disappointed if we don’t win 10 games,” – Jon Kitna, 2007 Lions who finished 7-9. Heck, 7-9 would be considered a miracle for these Cowboys.

  41. Stupid Raiders Fan says: Nov 5, 2010 10:17 AM

I’ve heard this before from the Raiders players over the years. You get in a hole and start thinking like this. Yeah it’s possible. Like 1 in a hundred? I’d say more like 1 in a million? So you’re saying there’s a chance.

  42. Steelers+Refs=True Love says: Nov 5, 2010 10:17 AM

Lose again to Philly. 3 & 13. Hope you get free superbowl tickets from Jerry. Thats the only way your gana be at one!

If you’d focus on proofing your work, you could escalate the quality of your work from “lazy” to “hack”.
    I doubt Tim’s name has two “Mc”s in it…
Of course, as you have in the past, you can always edit/repost your article — and make believe like it never happened (which also makes you a good and credible journalist, right ?)

  52. sthelen45 says: Nov 5, 2010 10:24 AM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! I certainly didn’t enjoy Roy’s time with the Lions and it makes it so much easier to hate him as a Cowboy. Someone should tell him that just because he looks and acts like a No. 1 wideout doesn’t at all make it true. He can’t back up anything he says with his play. Cue another replay of a ball bouncing off his giant hands.

  53. NY COWBOY says: Nov 5, 2010 10:27 AM

You are wrong… He knew that what he was saying was absurd by stating “you may call me stupid”. He offered this soundbite. Nobody drug this out of him. Even if it were asked of him, you can come up with ways to divert the question with something like, “we will see” or “baby steps guys”… See, not do hard to do…

Jerry Jones is already making hotel reservations for the team for the Super Bowl. The Boys think they can just flip a switch when it is game time and play well and it just doesn’t happen that way in the NFL.

What happened to the one game at a time lol this guy talking about winning 12 games in a row after going 1-6 and one of those games being the SB…..LMFAO Roy its ok to talk like that in the lockerroom and not quit on the season but to say it in public………….

  65. Duck Fallas says: Nov 5, 2010 10:37 AM

Didn’t he say they were going to run the gauntlet last week? And the week before that? Next week he’ll say that winning 8 straight isn’t out of the question.
Too bad his off the field ‘never say die’ bravado doesn’t match his on the field ‘walking dead’ performances. Someone needs to muzzle his dumbass, but his teammates are too despondent to make any kind of peep.

STFU, the Cowboys SUCK. My Eagles may have never won a SB, fine. But thats all the Cowboy fans do now. Use their LONG SINCE PAST SUCCESS as a crutch for their MISERABLE last 15+ years of GARBAGE play.
If your team was HALF as good as the hype, they would have a much better showing. As Parcells said, you are what your record says you are. That means at the bottom of the league.

    JERRY: Take care.
    HELEN: We’ll call you. (Leaves)
    MORTY: Bye, Jer.
JERRY: Bye, Dad. Take it easy.
    MORTY: Bye, Mr. Kramer.
Roy: Yeah. So long, Morty. (Morty leaves)
JERRY: So, when do I get my dinner?
Roy: There’s no dinner. The bet’s off. I’m not gonna do it.
JERRY: Yes. I know you’re not gonna do it. That’s why I bet.
Roy: There’s not bet if I’ not doing it.
JERRY: That’s the bet! That you’re not doing it!
Roy: Yeah, well, I could do it. I don’t want to do it.
JERRY: We didn’t bet on if you wanted to. We bet on if it would be done.
Roy: And it could be done.
JERRY: Well, of course it could be done! Anything could be done! But it only is done if it’s done. Show me the 9 wins! The bet is the 9 wins.
Roy: But I don’t want the 9 wins!
    JERRY: That’s the bet!

On further reflection. Just imagine what we all would be saying if Roy had come out and said the following:
“We can go LOSE nine in a row, if you ask me,” “People can call me stupid or whatever, but this football team has the core of players, it has the supporting cast of players to LOSE nine in row. We just got to KEEP it GOING just for other players to be like, ‘All right, we got it now.”

Uh Roy, when your owner starts apologising to the fan base even he realises that 9-0 is beyond a pipe dream. Remove your head from your rectum and grab a fresh breath of air, then take a good look around yourself. The party is over, and likely your career as a cowboy.
    “How bout them cowboys!”

    Dear Roy,
There have been very few teams in the history of the NFL who have won 9 games in a row. Last year was a bit of a fluke with both the Saints and the Colts winning 13 in a row. It just doesn’t happen very often. Of all the teams in the NFL, I would say that the Cowboys have the least chance to win 9 in a row. I would put more stock in the Buffalo Bills at this point.
Good luck next season when you get Romo back.
    Take care.

“PEDS ARE GREAT FOR SPORTS”….typical Eagles fan. You are right about one thing….the Eagles have never won a Superbowl. As far as “miserable 15+ years of gargbage play”, I guess you forgot about the 3 ass whipings the Cowboys gave the Eagles last year? You need to realize that beating the Cowboys is NOT the same as winning the superbowl, but it is all you have to cling to.

Thanks buddy ! Sure will. You can keep dreaming of a winning season this year. I got a feeling we are more likely to go to the superbowl then the cowboys are of having a winning season this year.
Relive the glory days of seasons past (maybe PRE 1995 shall we say) and that should help ease the pain of the reality that is:
YOUR TEAM SUCKS THIS YEAR AND HASNT DONE SQUAT IN THE LAST 15 !!!
Choke on that like Tony Romo in the playoffs, whether it be playing QB (or should I say TRYING TO) or attempting to hold for a game winning field goal.
COWBOYS SUCK !!! Now crawl back under that rock or the hole you came from !!!

You can’t have it both ways. If you’re complaining about people piling on the girls this year, then you can’t bring up the SB’s. That’s all PED is saying. You sound like Brooking last year after he cried that the Vikings ran it up on them and yet, he forgot that the girls ran it up on the eagles in the playoffs. I’m an Eagles fan and acccepted the fact that the Girls beat on the Eagles and took it like a man. Now you should step away from the keyboard and run to your Mommy cause your hot pockets are ready and it’s time for lunch and Jerry Springer.

I love how many Cowboy haters there, it just goes to show how important the Cowboys are to the NFL. Also why pick on David Beuhler? Everybody thought he would be the weak link on this team, he has actually surprised me. Pretty good kicker and a beast on kick-offs. He’s the least of their problems. Hey haters, wait till your team lose to this bunch of idiots, now that would be embarassing. I’m going to start my own site and just post Cowboy stuff. Then watch you fools run to post stupid crapo about the Cowboys. Just seen how many people post on any Cowboy article as to any other stuff. It’s like a bunch of Ditches putting down the “HOT” girl at school/work…So funny.

Wow, you are REALLY delusional man. In the last TEN years, the Eagles have more division titles than the cowboys have playoff wins,(ACTUALLY FIFTEEN YEARS). And pretty certain that they are one of the top five WINNINGEST franchises in the last decade. So you got it all wrong. WAY WRONG. So check your stats chump. Yeah, I know, NO SUPERBOWLS, I get that. But only ONE TEAM can win it per year. So while disappointing, aggravating and heartwrenching, theres no shame in what the Eagles have done the last 10 years.
Which is more than you can say for your sorry @ss team.

Really interesting, if not totally predictable response here.
A guy on the worst team in the league still thinks his team can win the rest of its games. And the morons shout things like: “drug test him!” It kind of reflects the mood of the country as a whole. Everything sucks! I hate Obama! Bring back Boehner and all those guys who made this mess!
I like Roy Williams. I like positive people who are called ‘delusional.’ I just can’t relate to negative, bitter losers. I know that’s pretty much the target audience—not just on this site but in all entertainment. But bitter people just aren’t interesting. Or original.

As a Cowboys fan, can’t even believe he said that. Was that after he took that shot to the head? It must have been. I’ve heard of the power of positive thinking, but the power of delusional thinking? So on the one hand I think he either sustained brain damage or is on hard drugs to say something like that – and on the other hand, at least he apparently hasn’t completely given up like the rest of the team. The way the Cowboys coaching staff and too many players are performing, shows not just total disrespect for their fans, but for the game itself. Are they terrible? Yes. Are they 45-7 terrible? No. Maybe 31-10, but not 45-7. You hear of teams who say they don’t know the meaning of the word quit. This has become a team that doesn’t know the meaning of the word “try”. The players have no faith in the coaches, and they have lost faith in themselves as well. Jerry Jones is a football moron, possibly the worst GM in the NFL, and Wade Phillips is a mediocre coach at best who was 0 for 5 in the playoffs before Dallas. This team is an embarrassment to the game. Buffalo is winless, but is still trying hard and keeping games close against some teams. The Cowboys have personnel problems, but are better talented than Buffalo – so why is Buffalo still trying while the Cowboys have quit? Answer: Character.

  140. GreggyBoy says: Nov 8, 2010 3:54 AM

I’m a Cowboys fan, born in Ft Worth. Looking at the schedule, I see the odds at no better than 50/50 that the Cowboys will win another game all year. The team’s players have quit on a coaching staff that they do not respect or believe in, and sadly the players don’t feel they still owe their best effort to the fans, or to the game itself. Jerry Jones is a terrible GM, and Wade Phillips is living up to his winless 0-5 record in the playoffs before he was entrusted with the team. Jason Garrett and the special teams coach should also be fired. The root of all of these problems, is Jerry Jones. How embarrassing to play like this, let alone when hosting the Super Bowl. Although the Cowboys suck, the pathetic Philly fan in this forum is still a joke. Even if the Cowboys glory days are long behind them, at least they once had glory days. Cowboy fans recognize very clearly that the team hasn’t been great in a long time. But when you team has never won a Super Bowl, and ours has won 5, it’s easy to see why you seethe with hostility and jealousy toward the Cowboys. That’s the difference between us – seeing that the Cowboys suck this year, I don’t feel jealous if the Eagles do well this year – more power to you if they do. But you somehow believe that if the Eagles do well this year, that this reflects positively on you. It doesn’t. You are irrelevant to their success, just as you will be irrelevant if they fail. Just as you were irrelevant to their going 0-3 against the Cowboys in 3 embarrassing losses last year.
