Bigby is back for the Packers

As the Green Bay Packers prepare for a Sunday night home game against the disintegrating Dallas Cowboys, the Packers are getting back one of their key defensive players.

The team has announced that safety Atari Bigby has been activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list.  He fills the roster spot created by the release of defensive lineman Mike Montgomery.

Bigby underwent ankle surgery in August.

Cornerback Al Harris remains on the PUP list as he continues to recovery from a knee injury suffered last season.  Both players returned to practice after Week Six, opening a three-week window during which they must be added to the 53-man roster for placed on season-ending injured reserve.

I hope this isn’t a sign Al Harris is heading back to IR.

  2. 12arodfan says: Nov 6, 2010 4:44 PM

They ought to activate Al Harris too while they were at it. He could have played last week.

  3. JpBirdman says: Nov 6, 2010 4:46 PM

He must no longer need weed to subdue the pain. Maybe he could sell the rest to Percy Harvin.

  4. Strick says: Nov 6, 2010 4:49 PM

Ehh, not sure I like this move. Peprah has been playing well in Bigby’s spot. I’m pretty sure a healthy Peprah is better than a rusty Bigby, especially against Witten and Bennett tomorrow.
I’d rather they had left Bigby on the PUP for another week (or two) and activated Starks instead – I’m really interested to see what that young man can do…

  5. Sumeria says: Nov 6, 2010 5:03 PM

The only one I really want to see active is the one least likely to be…James Starks.
I thought that’s why we signed Dimitri “Red Army” Nance…a no name to keep the seat warm for the young stud.
That two headed “monster” of Jackson and Kuhn will have to continue not carrying the load.
Aaron Rodgers is about to go Harvin on MM.

    Keyword being: “disintegrating”!

  7. crazyguy says: Nov 6, 2010 5:18 PM

Nice. Now get Al back and our DBs are totally upgraded though he will have to play behind Williams.

  8. Blutodunnit2 says: Nov 6, 2010 5:23 PM

They have until Monday to activate Harris

  9. ShimSham says: Nov 6, 2010 6:10 PM

Al Harris’ knee injury in 2009 was beyond devastating when you look at everything that got torn up. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him out for another year.

  10. skinsfan703 says: Nov 6, 2010 6:19 PM

Where is boysroll is he hiding?

  11. ClayMath52 says: Nov 6, 2010 6:20 PM

Ready for Big Hit Bigby to lay some cowgirl out!!! Then head right back to IR….

  12. ICEWALKER says: Nov 6, 2010 6:59 PM

But if they activate Al Harris then one of the 3 FBs might have to be cut.
    (yeah, that’s a joke people).

  13. Jack Factor says: Nov 6, 2010 7:03 PM

Bluto is right. The Packers can wait to see if someone gets injured in the Dallas game before deciding on Harris.
While his incredible recovery program displayed his faith, discipline and unparalleled work ethic; the emergence of Tramon Williams as a potential Pro Bowler along with the satisfactory play of Ted Thompson’s young secondary may leave Harris as the odd man out.
The Packers could wave someone on Monday to make room for Harris if none of his teammates suffer a serious injury on Sunday, but since Harris is nearing the end of the road and does not play special teams; that would be highly unlikely.

    As a Cowboys fan, I predict 34-10…..
    Packers win.
Here’s to a 3-13 season and the end of the Phillips/Garrett era. Blessing in disguise.

Wow Packer trolls leave skid marks all over this site (mostly under Vikings articles) but when it comes to their articles it seems like nobody really cares or most people just have more class.
Yeah, this is a bit hypocritical to say that as I’m sorta being a troll right now. Still, it’s interesting.

    lame…

Starks has not played a down of football since 2008. Now ain’t the time to experiment with THAT guy.
Peprah is smart; can call signals back there; can deliver a hit; he is young and improving weekly.
Bigby was a fart in the wind in 2007. He’s a suitable backup now. Simply insurance for a banged up Collins ….

Good to have him back – albeit as a backup for the time being. Peprah isn’t losing that starting spot just yet.
Now let’s get Al back in playing form.

  23. jb1996 says: Nov 6, 2010 8:47 PM

atleast we have somebody in the secondary with experience al is gonna be a few weeks before he is back if he even comes back

How big of an Eff You would it be to Brett Favre if Aaron Rodgers started dating Jenn Sterger?

  25. winslow says: Nov 6, 2010 8:50 PM

How exactly did Clay Matthews go from having FIVE total sacks during his USC career to being one of the NFL’s best pass rushers?
Perhaps Brian Cushing can enlighten us.
    If not, Shawne Merriman can.
    Or Barry Bonds.
    Maybe it’s the hair.

  26. Infidel says: Nov 6, 2010 9:04 PM

Matthews is stockpiling sacks cuz he has played against some of the most pathetic o-lines in the NFL:
    Philly
    Washington
    Chicago
    But he’s a beast nonetheless …

You’re either just really late to the party, or deliberately playing dumb.
It’s that Vikings fans have zero ammo right now: their team is in shambles and the Packers are winning on heart, effort and good coaching.
Should have been here 2 months ago, when the mere mention of the Packers- Rodgers in particular- led to 100+ posts full of Queens fans spewing nonsense everywhere.
As for Bigby- it’s great to have him back. Peprah is playing well, but there is no veteran depth at the position. If Harris can make it back to play in the nickel/ dime, the Packers D is suddenly much better positioned for a late season run.

Packer Fans on a good note I do see your resident trolls JimmySmith & Bob_Nelson haven’t shown themselves on this thread so it’s unfair to judge you all. I do note you guys should be a bit happier with your team than some of you are.
Yeah, I know the Vikings are in a mess right now. I read about it hundreds of times a day. Florio has a fetish for stoking up all stories remotely having to do with Minnesota.

  31. Murgen says: Nov 7, 2010 12:09 AM

Looks like if Al ever gets on the turf again for GB he’ll be a Nickle CB or backup. Tramon is playing too good right now to have a rusty, reconstructed Al Harris take his spot. Tramon is looking like a Mini-Woodson. Correction, Mini-09-Woodson.

  32. Calistin says: Nov 7, 2010 12:50 AM

    @ Winslow.
You obviously don’t have a clue as to what you are talking about.
Clay’s father and uncle both played in the NFL. His older brother played at USC, and his younger brother plays for #1 Oregon as their starting MLB and will probably get drafted in a high round if not the first.
He’s got pedigree. A lot of players get better when they come to the NFL. The kid has a lot of heart, is very humble, is a great locker room presence, and works his butt off. Read some articles about him, see what his coaches have to say, what other scouts have to say. Don’t just be an idiot and cop out by claiming, “He must be on something.”
He also has former sack master Kevin Greene as his LB coach. Whom better from which to learn?
Crawl back under your bridge troll.

That’s actually kind of funny — in order to “burn you” — you gotta have a QB who can get them the ball.
The Packers know John Kitna from his days in Detroit before he got washed out of there as QB. He’s not a Romo. Heck, he’s not even a Rex Grossman.

  34. footballrulz says: Nov 7, 2010 10:36 AM

    @Someone
What is there to say? Packers are 5-3 with loads of injuries and a sputtering offense. If the Pack was falling apart like the Vikes seem to be every Packer article would spawn hundreds of hits, mostly from Vike fans talking about how bad the Pack are, how fat their fan base is and how ugly the women are in Wisconsin.
Winning makes them like Lake Woe Be Gone. In the words of one famous Minnesotan:
“Where the women are strong, the men are good looking and all the children are above average”.
Winning works. You’ll find out one day.
Now, if they could just get that offense on track….

  35. I_H8_Waffles says: Nov 7, 2010 10:54 AM

Hooray for Bigby, But AL still on PUP? Surely he would make a better nickle than Shields? Someone isn’t telling us he whole story.
And you forgot about Starks Florio. He’s still on PUP too, an that makes decisions a little hare for GB front offices.
