Colts lose Anthony Gonzalez for season

The injury bug just keeps biting the Indianapolis Colts.

Today the Colts announced that wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez has been placed on injured reserve with a left knee injury, ending his 2010 season.

The team’s official announcement makes a specific point of saying that Gonzalez suffered the injury “when being tackled out of bounds,” making clear that the Colts think the hit delivered by Texans safety Bernard Pollard on Monday night should have drawn a penalty flag and a fine.

But the play wasn’t flagged, and Pollard escaped a fine this week as well. So there’s a clear disconnect between what the Colts think “tackled out of bounds” means and what the league thinks it means.

In any event, Gonzalez’s season has now been cut short for the second straight year. In 2009 and 2010 combined, Gonzalez played in a grand total of three games and caught all of five passes.
