It’s getting harder and harder to keep Wade Phillips

Really, Jerry Jones would be doing Wade Phillips a favor.

It’s hard enough to watch these games. Coaching this dreadful Cowboys squad for the rest of the season would hurt Phillips a lot more than getting fired.

Jones said earlier this week that Phillips would remain as coach the rest of the season. But we pointed out then extenuating circumstances have to apply. There can only be so many brutal blowout losses in a row before Jones buckles and makes a change.

Sunday night’s 45-7 loss to the Packers may be the nail in Phillips’ coffin. FOX’s Jay Glazer wrote on his Twitter Sunday evening that he thought a move would happen and that Jones considered making a change last week.

We don’t think a coaching move will do any good. We also doubt the next Cowboys fulltime coach currently works for the organization. But it’s time.

Phillips may even be grateful for getting canned when he’s sitting on his couch on Thanksgiving watching the Cowboys like the rest of us. At least then he could change the channel.

UPDATE: Jones after the game, via ESPN’s Chris Mortensen: “Aot of people here will suffer consequences . . . players, coaches. . . . I’ve got lot of work to do, a lot of decisions to make.”
