No arguments there Deb. I was just pointing that out. I kind of assumed that was the case. Yes, too much intolerance and racism/sexism, etc in today’s world still. Not sure if it will truly ever change for the better but one could always hope.

I’m sorry–that wasn’t my intention. In this case, I was specifically responding to LostSok’s erroneous comment that Ben wasn’t arrested simply because he’s a white QB. Not true. It’s also not true that he escaped arrest because there wasn’t enough evidence. There was a great deal of evidence in the Milledgeville case–and it all pointed to his innocence. It’s not fair to keep saying the guy got off because he’s white.

But I’m well aware that many men of color are falsely accused, arrested, and convicted. Have frequently suggested people visit the Web site of the Innocence Project where they’ll find case after case detailing the convictions of men wrongly convicted and later proved innocent by DNA. Most appear to be men of color. Sadly, the justice system continues to be, on the whole, less favorable for minorities.

And believe it or not Deb…some black men are falsely accused while some white men rape women. Who knew? Usually I like your posts and comments but I though your last sentence was a little off or misleading. I think race and color have nothing to do with it at the end of the day…Just sad that people regardless of status can “if he truly” is guilty, do things to throw their life away. What evidence has been presented makes it seem pretty hard to say he’s innocent. But just like many other cases, we weren’t there and we will most likely never know all of the facts. That is just the way it is.

Instead of looking at the guy’s color and what team he plays for, why don’t you try looking at the evidence in the cases? The woman who sued Roethlisberger texted friends the day after their one-night stand saying how she couldn’t wait to see him again. A year later she’s demanding $3 million for rape. Hell hath no fury like a one-niter who doesn’t get a call back. And after chasing him from bar to bar all evening and trying to get him back to her place, the woman in Milledgeville cried rape when the medical exam showed they didn’t even have intercourse. Believe it or not, sometimes black men do rape women and sometimes white men are falsely accused.

Hey, boys, about my comment falling through the cracks … censorship is odious.
Interesting that you find this case so amusing, Florio. You were a lot more serious about Roethlisberger’s Milledgeville case when you were shredding him week after week after week … even after the prosecutor said they didn’t have enough for probable cause because he couldn’t even prove penetration thanks to the results of the woman’s medical exam.
I don’t know anything about Meggett than this: HE’S BEEN CONVICTED IN CRIMINAL COURT. That gives his accuser some credibility, don’t you think? And though you haven’t provided any details of the BURGLARY you keep referencing, it should occur to you that his conviction on BOTH charges would contribute to the sentence.
Guilty or innocent, there’s nothing amusing about any of this.

Even if you think the rape sentence “seems excessive,” it’s foolish to print it. It’s the sort of stuff women’s groups could use to try to get you kicked off NBC. Go ahead and quietly delete that. It does you no good to be seen as an advocate for former NFL players turned rapists.

Too bad for Meggit he wasn’t a white QB for the Steelers. He’d get a minor suspension–quickly reduced when they realized it might affect ticket sales–and that would be the end of it.

Maybe if people didn’t think 30 years was excessive for a rape conviction we’d have less rapes?
Rape prison jokes are funny because the people being made fun of don’t really deserve jokes of good taste. I mean are we really upset that people make fun of rapists and them receiving a bit of “payback?”
And here we go again, its all because he played for the Giants. Please someone find me the team without a rap sheet? (I wont hold my breathe) It has nothing to do with the organization any player played for. Especially when the organization has changed management numerous times over the years and the players you are naming played for different managements, heck even ownerships.
And geesh Meggett played for three teams, yet you kids are so brain dead to say its because he played for the Giants.

In the Giants VIP bar at the Meadowlands i saw his name on the ring of fame and laughed knowing his past and this case was still going on. I guess they have to keep it up for precedent so they don’t have to take down LT’s in a few months.

@Tweetledum Both crimes are catagorized as “violent”; therefore, he must serve at least 85% of the sentence before a possible parole.
@wubomber There is no such law in S.C. If Meggett caused the girl’s intoxication it would be 1st degree CSC. If he took advantage of her willful intoxication it is 3rd degree CSC.
@Florio Any appeal based on the sentence will be unsuccessful: bank on it. The standard of review will be “abuse of discretion”; given that each charge could result in a 30 year sentence, and given that she sentenced him within the statutory limits, no abuse will be deemed to have occurred.
Something tells me 30 years is a sufficient punishment for breaking into a person’s home and raping them. Still, although I am sure the Public Defender did an exemplary job, I wonder why a man who spent 10 years playing in the NFL didn’t have at least 30K in the bank to pay for an attorney with a lighter workload?
