Giants’ Steve Smith expected to miss one game, possibly more

When we hear pectoral injury, we automatically think the worst. (A torn pectoral muscle.)

It appears that Giants Steve Smith has avoided that “severe” injury when he left Thursday’s practice, but it looks like the injury will cost him some playing time. Vinny DiTrani of the Bergen Record says Smith will miss “at least” this week’s game against the Cowboys and possibly more.  Smith sat out practice Friday.

Smith is the guy Eli Manning looks to first on third downs, even following Hakeem Nicks’ emergence this year. The Giants are well suited, though, to handle this loss in the short term. Mario Manningham and Kevin Boss figure to get more targets.

Good thing we’re playing the worst team in football this weekend 🙂

That’s good news for us Hakeem Nicks owners!

ugh, Smith usually eats the Cowboys up too…I guess we’ll see a little more of Manningham. Means I have to go with the crappy Steve Smith in fantasy though.

Short-term is it. Nicks has played fantastic, and Manningham is ALWAYS a threat to make/break a ridiculous catch, but after that? Barden hasn’t shown much yet, and Duke Calhoun has only played Special Teams. Luckily, Travis Beckum is a good receiver as is Boss. Combine them with a solid 3 -headed running attack (please give us a bit more Danny “don’t call me D.J.” Ware). and the Giants should be OK for the short term.

Or maybe the Giants should just try to shut out their next 4 opponents (OK, I don’t think they will shut out Philly).

Last game it was kinda half and half. They should be fine against Dallas though. I feel sorry for Kitna.
