Giants’ Steve Smith expected to miss one game, possibly more

When we hear pectoral injury, we automatically think the worst. (A torn pectoral muscle.)

It appears that Giants Steve Smith has avoided that “severe” injury when he left Thursday’s practice, but it looks like the injury will cost him some playing time. Vinny DiTrani of the Bergen Record says Smith will miss “at least” this week’s game against the Cowboys and possibly more. Smith sat out practice Friday.

Smith is the guy Eli Manning looks to first on third downs, even following Hakeem Nicks’ emergence this year. The Giants are well suited, though, to handle this loss in the short term. Mario Manningham and Kevin Boss figure to get more targets.
