Report: Randy Moss didn’t want to take his talents to South Beach

In the frenzied day leading up to Randy Moss’ waiver claim by the Titans, the Miami Dolphins were mentioned perhaps more than any other team as a possible landing spot. Miami let him pass.

It turns out that the Dolphins were interested, but the feeling wasn’t mutual. Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Dolphins “put out feelers” to Moss’ camp, but word came back that he wouldn’t be enthusiastic about joining the team.

It’s unclear why Moss didn’t want to play for the Dolphins, and surely were other reasons why Miami didn’t claim him. It’s also worth considering that the Dolphins could be covering their tracks, spreading the word about Moss’ lack of interest when they are taking heat at home for passing on him.

We can’t kill the Dolphins for not claiming Moss, whatever the reason. But the front office deserves some blame for not finding a way to manufacture big plays. For a second straight year, the lack of a consistent deep threat has hurt the offense. Chad Pennington won’t fix that.
