Source: No decision made yet on Sidney Rice

Despite a report that Vikings receiver Sidney Rice will make his 2010 debut on Sunday against the Bears, a source with knowledge of the situation tells us that no decision has been made.

Per the source, Rice likely needs one more week in order to be ready to test his surgically-repaired hip in a game situation.  Either way, a decision as to whether he’ll play on Sunday will be made during and/or immediately after pre-game warmups.

Until then it’s “very iffy,” the source said.

Rice was hampered by a hip problem throughout much of the offseason.  He ultimately opted for surgery in August; if a decision had been made in May or June, he could have been ready to go when the season started.

The fourth-year player, who’ll be an unrestricted free agent if the next set of free-agency rules permits a player to hit the open market after only four seasons, needs a strong finish to the campaign to rebuild his perceived value.  Playing — and playing well — deep into January would help considerably.

Are you kidding me? We can still turn this season around in a weak nfc conference. You people are constantly on here bashing the vikings but yet you still come to the vikings website. Idiots!!!

Vikings done? Based on what? The stellar offense of the Bears? Or are you just assuming the Vikings will lose too many games to make the playoffs. In todays NFL I wouldn’t call anybody out until they are officially eliminated. Too many crazy injuries and crazy games this year. I bet you would have put money on the Patriots to beat the Browns last week.

Didn’t you guys just have a “report” that Rice will play on Sunday? Usually when I see a story begin with “Report:” around here, that means it’s confirmed information. Looks like I have to start seeing that differently…
