Has Gruden already talked to Cowboys?

This is the rumor mill, and the following Sunday morning missive from’s John Czarnecki definitely fits as unverified fun rather than fact:

“It is difficult to confirm, but two league sources believe that the Cowboys have already spoken to ESPN’s Jon Gruden to gauge his interest in coaching there next season. No job offer, simply a fact-finding mission. Despite a rich contract with ESPN, friends of Gruden insist that he may be interested in jumping back into coaching. A huge salary reportedly won’t be demanded by Gruden, either,” Czarnecki writes.

The rumor comes following Jones’ claim that two Super Bowl winning coaches had already called about the Cowboys gig before Wade Phillips was fired.   Maybe Brian Billick didn’t call twice after all.

Before he gets roped in by Jerry-the-snake-oil-salesman, Gruden needs to make two phone calls: the first to Jimmy Johnson and the second to Bill Parcells.

Only they can honestly say what it’s like to work under Jerry’s short leash. After that, Jon needs to run as far away from Jerry as he can get!
