Raheem Brock was busted for DUI Saturday

KCPQ in Seattle and the Seattle Times both report that Seahawks defensive lineman Raheem Brock was arrested for driving under the influence in Seattle Saturday morning.

According to Washington State Patrol public information officer Julie Startup, Brock was released by the arresting officer without being formally booked into jail.  The arrest occurred at 3:00 a.m Saturday, presumably after a Friday night out on the town.

Brock has appeared in all nine of the Seahawks’ games, compiling 13 tackles and three sacks.  He was allowed to play Sunday against the Cardinals.

This is believed to be Brock’s first arrest as a pro.  He is a ninth-year veteran.

  1. If he wasn’t booked, then he wasn’t “busted for DUI” in the way most people who read the headline will take that to mean.

The person who wrote the article purposely wrote “booked into jail” so people would think he was still being charged but not put into jail.

If he was arrested but not booked, that means he was held on “suspicion of DUI” not “busted for DUI”. If he was clearly drunk, he would have been booked. The fact that he wasn’t means that there is a better than average chance that either a) he wasn’t actually drunk or b) there was not enough evidence to book him.

It may seem like nitpicking, but there is actually a very big difference. Many people held on suspicion of DUI are never in fact charged.

  2. did he fill his car with wine, drive around, and when pulled over open the door only to have 500 gallons of wine spill out in front of the cop?

Or did he fill the inside of his helmet with beer and go riding around on his motorcycle and then flip up his visor and spill beer all over the cop when he got pulled over?
