Tim Tebow delivers likely death blow to Chiefs

Three weeks ago, the Broncos suffered a major embarrassment at home against the Raiders, absorbing a 59-14 loss. Early in the second quarter of their first home game since that 45-point debacle of a defeat, the Broncos are in the process of making amends.

A short touchdown run by backup quarterback Tim Tebow has pushed the Denver lead to 28. The Chiefs have yet to score.

Denver opened the game with an eight-play, 80-yard scoring drive. The Chiefs, after picking up one first down, punted. Nine plays later, a six-yard pass from quarterback Kyle Orton to receiver Brandon Lloyd made it 14-0.

A three-and-out by the Chiefs later, the Broncos had the ball back. Three plays after that, Orton and receiver Jabar Gaffney hooked up on a 40-yard pass. The Chiefs challenged the catch, but the replay system was inoperable, and the play stood.

It’s unclear whether the replay system in Denver currently is operable.

On the next drive, the Chiefs drove into field-goal range. But kicker Ryan Succop effed up a 52-yard attempt.

And then the Broncos sliced and diced their way down the field again, making the score 28-0.

Sure, the Chiefs can come back. But we wouldn’t bet anything other more than a partially-eaten sandwich on it.
