Singletary isn’t stupid, he knows Chilo has been one of many weak links on the O-Line. Sing also has a pride issue, which is why he won’t bench a weak link without an excuse to do so (i.e. A. Smith’s injury), the baby served as his prime excuse to bench the unproductive Chilo Rachal. Now he needs to hurry up and find his excuse to bench Anthony Davis because the kid just isn’t ready for the NFL yet.

Please Mr. Smith tell me that what you are writing was only partially true! That Mike Singletarty didn’t really bench his player BECAUSE (as the REASON you stated) he missed practice due to the birth of his son. As Finfan68 says, there likely must be more to the story. Why not print that too, (probably because you didn’t do any research on the story)? Why not just say that Chilo Rachal did not start the game due to missing practice because he was with his wife for the birth of their child? It’s like saying that Florio is doing PFT because he ISN’T UP to practicing law anymore. May be valid but entirely true? You’re posts are starting to look like something from a grocery store tabloid. C’mon man! Have some integrity.

There is likely more to this story. Not even Singletary is stupid enough to bench a guy for a single practice that happened at the same time as his child’s birth. What time was the kid born, what day? Was there any other angst between player and the coach or other players?

well, sensational journalism strikes again at PFW. way to spin the story there guys.

Rachal was excused from practice. His time off took more time than originally anticipated. Rachal’s play has been questionable all year. Many fans have been calling for him to be benched. So he’s been borderline even when he has all week to practice. Rachal’s extended absence, while excused, left Singletary little choice but to play his back up (Snyder) whom many think play better than Rachal anyway.

Singletary might not be a rocket scientist of a coach and about as emotionally stable as a soap opera but in this case it was the right call, he started the best player. Now if we could talk to him about Anthony Davis……

He missed PRACTICE to see his own son’s birth?
Why would any real or considerate dad want to do that?

Trust me, I am sure Chilo Rachal is NOT going to regret making the RIGHT decision!

Not knowing Singletary that well, he diffently has made me not care for him if he truly benched Chilo for that reason.

He wasn’t benched as punishment. Yes, he was sort of benched due to attending the birth of his child, BUT not as punishment, because Snyder gave the 9ers a better chance to win since he had missed probably the single most important day of practice all week. He will be back to starting next week, no news here.

If the NFL had a policy of allowing NFL players to be present for every birth of of every child they fathered there’d be no one available to play on Sunday

before this season i liked SIngletary as a head coach (im a giants fan)

after the way he talks and puts people down for no reason i dont think he is a good coach.

he cant use the ‘intimidation’ he used as a player because he is a coach…..a teacher.

i would be damned if i msis the birth of my child for anything.
i would miss the superbowl to be there with my child & family.

i applaud rachal for doing what a man is supposed to do.
he isnt missing practice due to a toe hurting or his wife is sick or whatever……its the birth of his child.

situations like this will divide a locker room as im sure all the parents on the team (players) afree with Rachal on this one.

how do you discipline a player for missing practice to be there for the birth of his child?
this isnt a ‘spur of the moment’ thing……its 9 months in the making and im sure every coach knew the situation

This seems harsh, but it’s necessary in today’s NFL to limit excused absences by players, particularly in cases of childbirth. Otherwise, Antonio Cromartie could miss entire training camps, and Travis Henry may well have never had a career at all.

Singletary from yesterday: “No. No, what happened is, bottom line, Chilo missed the Friday practice. He let me know the day before that there was a chance that that would happen and it was Saturday. There were some other things that took place that you’ll have to talk to him about. I thought it was fair to our offense, our coordinator, our quarterback, to start [G Adam] Snyder. The little changes that we made here and there that Chilo was not totally in tune with. And just thought it was better to go with Snyder and let it work itself out, and it did.”
