Jason Campbell officially gets the call

Another Bay Area quarterback has earned the team’s starting job indefinitely for a simple reason. He’s winning.

Tom Cable announced Monday that Jason Campbell will be the team’s starter moving forward, as expected.

“He’s earned the right to do that. Four out of the last five games are wins,” Cable said via the Oakland Tribune. “Bruce [Gradkowski] will be the backup and we’ll go from there.”

The news is notable because Gradkowski is apparently finally healthy enough to play. That means Campbell may only be a couple of ugly quarters away from getting the hook like he did early in the season.

The Raiders return from their bye this week to face the Steelers. They expect to get tight end Zach Miller back to practice, but cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha’s status is less certain.
