umm, no, look again. i made a tongue-in-cheek comment the other day, but i’m of the mind that if the pats were caught, there were at least 5 other teams that did not, and thats a very conservative number.

@ goldsteel: Seldom have I seen so many lame excuses in one comment. Congratulations, whiner.

Whiner? The Steelers got beat. In fact, I'm not sure the Steelers were there. They were terrible. This wasn't the first time New England put it to the Steelers.

Excuses? Well, the Steelers are missing the two starting tackles on offense and the left guard on occasion. And the Steelers are missing both defensive ends. But much of the team was terrible and the offensive coordinator should have called more running plays in the beginning to allow the offensive line to gain it's footing.

Whether you can see the quantum shift in professional football from the National Fine League or not isn't my concern. When Browns players start getting fined and then defensive players pull up on plays then maybe you will understand. Or maybe you won't.

Congratulations on Colt McCoy. The young man plays like a winner. Decisive, focused and a player.

@steelerdynasty2010

You're truly surprised by Pats fans? Take a scroll through the thread on a Patriots-related story and tell me you don't see the same damn thing from your fans.

Yeah, I get it, you two are clearly head-and-shoulders above the rest of us, in terms of your maturity and ability to convey your feelings in a somewhat level manner. Except you, steelerdynasty2010 -- I could be wrong, but I think I've seen you talking spygate nonsense recently. Or something lame and irrelevant, yet similar.

Anyway, always look forward to playing the Steelers. Always fun to watch. Hate your QB and the apologists for him, but hey, I am a fanatic, no?

Until next time!

DESPITE the gaudy numbers that Arians gets credit for, the majority of it comes because Ben is able to extend plays and chuck it deep to receivers whose defenders have given up on them and opt to chase the QB or otherwise abandon their responsibilities. His game management and gameplanning are ridiculously flawed. When an O-line is totally unprepared for the blitz like we ALWAYS are, you gotta go back to the OC, its ultimately his job to figure out protection schemes, and the O-Line coach to make sure his guys understand it. Either we dont have an effective plan, or our lineman dont understand it, either way, it needs fixing and he's the guy who is supposed to fix it....and he hasnt. secondly, either ben is too dumb to read a blitz and the hot read or he's not being taught. i'm going to guess the latter because its an inherent part of blitz pickup. First, you teach the lineman who to block, then you teach to qb to to look for when it happens. its really not that hard to do, but when you arent prepared for it, it looks like splitting atoms. Also, we might have the least inventive and most predictable running game ever in the recorded history of football. If we're gonna run right on every play, we can at least mix in a counter or a trap every now and again to keep them honest. Yes, the end result is sometimes big numbers in the stat column, but when we win, its DESPITE him, not because of him. When you have a great defense, keep them fresh and off the field. Arians has proven himself unable to do this. far too many 3-6 and outs (yes, sometimes we get a first down before punting). the more time and opportunities you give the opposing team to attack your defense, the more likely they are to find success. especially good teams, and especially when your defensive backfield is suspect to say the least. BTW, William Gay is quickly turning into the second coming of Chad Scott, and we could've done fine without the first coming.
All that being said, can we stop sounding the alarms like we got our heads beat in by the bills or something? last i checked, Tom Brady was at the very least, very good, and especially so when he isnt pressured. I dont think anyone was surprised by the Patriot gameplan (they've been doing this same thing to us for years now and we havent found a way to stop it yet, unless Tom isnt playing.) our DBs have been subpar since Rod Woodson left and we refuse to address it. Tom is one of the most accurate to play the game and looked like it...again, with virtually no pressure. we really didnt seem to be sending a lot of it his way either, which was surprising. i'm sure he does very well against the blitz, but sitting back wasnt helping us either. i'd rather blitz and lose. at least then you can say you forced him to make quick decisions and he was able to do it with consistency and high rate of accuracy.
what surprises me is the arrogance of the pats fans posting on here. would the browns have been justified in spewing such nonsense after they beat you? i doubt it. in fact, i'd bet you would say something like "its only 1 game, dont go crowning anyone just yet" or something similar. you won, convincingly, on the road, against a top tier team in the league. we were grossly outcoached and subsequently outplayed by a good team (i had my doubts going in, but the pats showed up and played). congrats...and i mean that sincerely...hopefully there's a rematch...and hopefully in foxborough because we cant beat you in our stadium....that said, win as graciously as you lose and just remember that one game does not a season make. if it did, doesnt losing to the browns pretty much leave you no chance to be successful this year? didnt think so.

Just home from the game. What a stinker. Pats spanked the Steelers, no two ways to look at it. Brady played outstanding, and we were clearly outcoached. When the Steelers let them go right down the field to open the second half, that was it for me. No successful adjustments were made at halftime. The defense took the day off apparently, which was kind of shocking to see. The DBs looked lost all day long. I still don't know why Gay is in there, I guess they don't have anybody better, but he is terrible on pass coverage.

No excuses about anything, we lost. It is one game, and I don't think the season is over yet, although from briefly skimming some of the above comments by people who did exactly what they accuse Steelers fans of doing you would think the season did end and the Steelers were winless.

Hopefully, the Steelers will regroup, and find some healthly bodies to play Oakland next week.

Trying to figure out why you'd be relieved. The Pats I saw last night are who I thought they were. Then I remember last week. Didn't see the game, but that must have been some kind of weird anomaly. The Pats I saw last night looked like the Pats of old.

Please spare us the holier-than-thou bit. If your wife truly cared about women's issues, she would have taken time to study the facts in the Roethlisberger case. Then she would know the medical exam showed the accuser wasn't raped, which is why the prosecutor said there was no evidence a crime occurred. As a longtime advocate for rape victims, I can assure you that women who make false claims do a lot more harm than football players who drink too much. And fans who claim they only root for the defense because there's a bad guy on the offense are full of it. A team is a team.

The Steelers haven’t had a good CB since Rod Woodson, that’s a long time ago now.

Their DB’s have been protected for years by zone dogs.

The Pats are hiding their deficiencies on defense in much the same fashion, it’s all based on pressure.

Smart QB’s expose defenses like these, like Brady did yesterday, with short accurate passes in zone gaps.

That’s not “hating”, that’s called “smoke and mirrors”.
-----------

Ok, that sounds good.

But doesn't it stand to reason that a young defense like the Patriots have (4 rookie starters) will only get better as the season goes on?

What blueprint, Brady is 4-1 vs the Ravens.

The past two times they have played. The Patriots got hammered in the playoffs and squeeked out an OT win. In the playoffs, Brady was 23/42 for 154 yds, 2td, 3 int and was sacked 3 times.
The past two times they have played. The Patriots got hammered in the playoffs and squeeked out an OT win. In the playoffs, Brady was 23/42 for 154 yds, 2td, 3 int and was sacked 3 times. This year against Baltimore he had one of his worst games 27/44, 1 td, 2 int. Baltimore had 3 sacks and 5 QB hits.

Yes you are correct, on that play. But they blitzed more than just that one play.
All I’m saying throughout his career all coaches have acknowledged if you blitz Brady he will kill you.

There were maybe 4 plays all game where Brady was pressured and he didn’t complete one. Most of the time they rushed 3. Brady is very good at identifying the blitz and dumping the ball off. Once the blitz/rush gets past the line of scrimmage, he is not very good when he is pressured. They pass the ball 71% of the time, because the Steeler’s corners can’t cover well enough, particularly William Gay. Baltimore’s secondary is as bad as Pittsburgh, the difference is they blitzed the crap out of Brady. If the Steelers would have followed the Raven blueprint they would have won the game.

flash1283:

The Steelers haven't had a good CB since Rod Woodson, that's a long time ago now.

Their DB's have been protected for years by zone dogs.

The Pats are hiding their deficiencies on defense in much the same fashion, it's all based on pressure.

Smart QB's expose defenses like these, like Brady did yesterday, with short accurate passes in zone gaps.

That's not "hating", that's called "smoke and mirrors".

Wow, Pats fans are sure classy! As a Steeler fan, we got WHOOPED on last night.. Pats just brought the house and our D couldn't get through to mess up Brady's hair. But Ben looked ok (except for the holding the ball too long/sacked thing), which is what we need for a playoff run....so we got that goin for us. It is true that the O line is 3rd and 4th stringers, so good on the Pats for taking advantage of that (but again, 3rd-4th stringers... cmon).

Anyhoo, just goes to show that if you get completely dismantled by the Browns (whom the Steelers beat) you'd probably be pissed too and come to play the next week. Looking forward to a rematch in the playoffs, HERE WE GO STEELERS!!

You need to go back and check the records, Brady is one of the best in the NFL vs the blitz.

Did you watch the game? One of the few times that they blitzed and got pressure, Brady panicked and was called for intentional grounding.

Last week the Browns chose not to blitz's Brady, for that very reason.

In the last 6 games vs the Steelers the Patriots have passed the ball 71% of the time.
Pittsburg is known for its blitzing, why would they throw that many times if Brady is below average vs the blitz?

Great game Patriots. Hate saying that. The Steelers were outplayed and outcoached. I wish someone would give Bruce Arians, Steve Sabols number so he can get some game tape and learn something about the team he is about to play. How do you give Mendenhall the ball 11 times one weak after Peyton Hillis had his way with Pats D? Arians play calling sucks. The D may not have been so tired had Arians run the ball some and had sustained a few long drives. Yes, the Steelers D played very poorly but anyone saying the Steelers D sucks or is soft, doesn't know football. Bring on the Raiders.

The defense for some reason did not blitz a whole lot. When they did Brady looked awful? When Brady is pressured he is below average. Lucky for him his coach is smart enough to run a system that keeps the D off of him. Part of the pass defenses problems go back to the preseason game against Denver. Keenan Lewis played awful and took out his frustration on a clock. He has been in the doghouse evr since and has not seen much of the field. He is not a savior, but he is better than Willie Gay. If you are not familiar with Willie Gay, watch the Patriots touchdowns, you’ll see him flalling his arms as the offense runs by him.

YOUR defense is doing it with “smoke and mirrors” this year, and I really believe it’ll show up soon enough.

Good coaching can only take you so far.
———————-

Come on, now you are saying the Steelers defense has been smoke and mirrors all these years??

Please tell us, who has a good D?

You are the typical Patriots hater, kill them when they dont win and make xcuses as to why they win.

The Steelers lost that game on the second play of the game. After starting the game with two tight ends against a team that was run over the week before, they went to five wides. Too much shotgun! The defense knows that they are throwing the ball, the steelers are not good enough to pick up the blitz. They need to fire Arians. He is so stuck on his offense and he ignores what the defense does. Instead of attacking the defense's weaknesses they run the same ineffective plays. Most teams starting a new LT will adjust their blocking schemes to give him help. Keep the TE in, have the back chip, not the steelers. Teams like the Patriots and the Colts scheme inorder to cover up there weaknesses, not Arians. Does anybody really think that Colt's OL are any good individually? oaching takes average players puts them together and makes an above average unit.

If you are not familiar with Willie Gay, watch the Patriots touchdowns, you'll see him flalling his arms as the offense runs by him.
