Steelers will bring in kickers, could cut Jeff Reed

Jeff Reed’s bad game in Pittsburgh Sunday night could be his last.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Pittsburgh is contemplating cutting Reed, the kicker whom the Steelers used the franchise tag to retain during the offseason.

The Steelers will bring in kickers for workouts on Tuesday, and if one of them is impressive enough, Reed will be out of work.

On Sunday Reed missed a 26-yard field goal against the Patriots and complained afterward about the fans, the media and the turf at Heinz Field.

We got Jeff Reed originally when “no better kickers were out there,” and he was solid as heck for about 8 years.

And they can likely find somebody that can kick better than 68%, and that can make a 26 yard FG.

Oh, and don’t forget about the fact he can’t get a kickoff past the 10 freakin yard line.

  2. In the last post about Reed, I said he stunk and it got deleted.

I should have said he’s “pathetic”, I know better now.

Hey Reed, you don’t stink but you’re pathetic.

    Got it.

  3. There must be at least 100 place kickers who graduate from colleges at various levels in the NCAA each year. I’m not buying that “best kicker available” malarkey.

  4. No better kicker out there, my foot! I guess that’s true if our goal is to set a record for most consecutive games with a miss.

Can we sign a kicker straight out of the college ranks and skip the whole draft process? That LSU kicker looked good beating my Crimson Tide. And those Bayou boys are used to kicking in swampy conditions.

“Haters hate.” I’d like to knock him in the head! Does he have any idea how many hours most fans are working to make ends meet?A few times a game for 16 weeks a year, he’s supposed to get the ball through the uprights and down the field on kickoffs. For that minimal effort, he’s paid millions of dollars. He doesn’t even have to get hit! He should practice until he has machinelike precision. I know his foot got caught in the sod last night. He’s whined so much when he had no excuse that I don’t care.

    BYE, Jeff.

  5. Kickers always seem to get into a funk for some reason. Nobody knows why, because kickers are tools. Stephen Gostkowski started missing kicks, then got hurt. Cut this fool. Then we will pick him up and make him look good as a Patriot.

  6. Can someone tell me why my posts keep getting deleted? Haven’t typed anything any worse then what is already posted? What’s the deal?

  7. Sounds more like the Steelers making excuses to me. Field goals are’nt automatic thats why they kick them. Jeff Reed is not the reason they lost. Swayze Waters was w/ Oakland in preseason the last two years and looked good. Hate to see the guy help Pitt. , but would like to see him get a chance.

  8. @2mannings1cup …

You’d have to start in the training room. Right now he looks like a bowling ball, and I think that’s part of the problem. He put on a tremendous amount of weight in the offseason–enough to make me wonder what’s going on with him. You can’t gain that much weight without it affecting your flexibility.

  9. He peaked two years ago and came into camp heavier than ever. He’s been mouthing off about his contract and now starts into the fans. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

    Seriously though…who franchises a kicker?

    ————————————————
    Apparently it’s successful teams.

Five kickers have been franchised in the last four years alone.

All five teams have been to the playoffs in that span, two have made it to the superbowl, and one has won two superbowls.

Do you realize that two-thirds of the teams don’t even use the franchise tag each year?

  11. I’m pretty sure there are some guys working the late shift at 7-11 that could kick a 26 yard field goal. He has had a bad season and Pitt is the toughest place to kick field goals. I don’t get his whiny rant though

  12. Hey Reed…your mocking fans for getting on your case because your not making 100% of your kicks…your making 68%..next excuse…Your blaming the bad turf at Heinz Field…how about the 2 you missed at Soldier Field, and the 1 you missed at Paul Brown, last year??? Not to mention at The Superdome this year You are on the Vanderjagt path now…Next kicker…

  13. He should stop partying with Jemarcus and hit the elyptical machine. This guy always has an excuse, his drunken photos used to be funny but that was before he started missing at a Folk rate.

See ya, enjoy NC ya hick.
