Pat Williams scraps retirement plans

After the 2010 season, Vikings defensive tackle Pat Williams weighed carefully the possibility of retirement.  He eventually chose to return, and it sounded like he was planning to play only one more year.

“That’s what I’m thinking,” Pat Williams said in May.  “Go win a championship and get out of here.”

He’s now singing a different tune.  Per the Associated Press, Williams said Tuesday that he now plans to play “a couple more years.”

Maybe he just realizes that there will be no championship in 2011 for the Vikings.

Either way, an intention to play “a couple more years” means that he likely will eventually have to serve the four-game suspension that arose from his positive test for a banned diuretic that secretly had been added to the over-the-counter weight-loss supplement known as StarCaps.

Old Pat should consider maybe going somewhere else to play.

That’s good news for Vikings opponents. The fat old dude is at the end of the road.

The NFC North would like him back for 5 or even 10 more years. You can get a first down just running around him.

He is not good anymore. Too fat & slow.

As much as I enjoyed Pat Williams as a Viking and wish he could play longer, he just isn’t as dominant as he once was. It might be better to go younger at his position even though I don’t want to see him leave. I met Pat once, he was a real and funny guy. Best of luck to Pat whether he is here again or somewhere else.

I was under the assumption that the Williams Wall were currently serving there 10 game suspension. Where have they been this year?

Good, just in time to serve his Star Caps suspension.

But I see see why he wants to play some more. He looks at his underperforming teammates and tells himself that it doesn’t matter if he still has it, if they can suck and still get paid, so can he.

It seems you are a few months early since the 2010 season has yet to end

As much as I hate to say it, it won’t be as a Viking. |Unless he is willing to take a pay decrease and a backup role.

    I don’t see it happening.

Didnt Brett teach you anything? You need to tell them you dont wanna play and they open up the vault for you.

I guess he found a new supplement.

If he wants a ring he’ll have to get it elsewhere.

He’s basically sending out an S.O.S. to Dan Snyder.

he should also scrap the possiblitity that he is going to win a superbowl anytime soon. Maybe he didn’t notice but his best years were two years ago so its really about ‘mo money’.

I have yet to see a comment that wasn’t forseen before I even finished reading the article… Doesn’t anyone on here have the wit to post something original?
