C.J. Spiller directs slur at Ricky Sapp

Bills rookie running back C.J. Spiller and Eagles rookie defensive end Ricky Sapp played college football together at Clemson.  Both players have Twitter accounts.

Moments ago, Sapp posted the following message:  “How is everyone today?”

Spiller’s response?  “Keep my name out ur mouth fag.”

Uh-oh.

It’s unclear what provoked Spiller.  Earlier in the day, Sapp told another Twitter user that “I feel u starting to get on my bad side like [Spiller].”

Sapps’ response to Spiller’s tweet?  “Well well look who it is… Go make a bed on the highway thanks.”

Look for Spiller to face a fine from the league and/or the Bills.  Last year, former Chiefs running back Larry Johnson used the same term in a Twitter message, and he allegedly uttered a similar term while speaking to the media.  He received a two-week suspension from the team; eventually, the team and the NFLPA agreed that the suspension would stand, but that Johnson would lose only one game check.

  1. Did he mean F@g as is cigarette? Like keep cigs out of your mouth? The league should be happy he is trying to send a positive message about not smoking to all the children.

  2. It’s honestly not worth a fine. Are the gay rights activists go crazy just because someone used that word? Everyone uses the word, its normal… People are too sensitive. I’m half black and I get used to the ‘derogatory’ terms people use about my race, same about my religion. I am personally offended but I brush it off, I hope everybody doesn’t overreact to this

  3. Spiller comes off as a real turd and a hot head.

Just like the “Spiller” that posts here and attacks due to region and other things.

  4. @neverend1

Seriously? Are you going to tell me if a white player directed an ‘n-word’ tweet at a black players there wouldn’t be a gigantic backlash. But oh, its not big deal.. its just the gays. Its not about being sensitive, its about conducting yourself in a professional manner. No doubt he should be suspended and/or fined. Its 2010, when are players going to learn that everything on the Internet leaves a paper trail and you WILL be scrutinized for it.

Kids look up to NFL players and when they are ‘tweeting’ racists and or bigoted content, its sending the wrong message. So stfu

  5. You can buy them books.

You can send them to school.

You can pay them secretly to play for your college.

But you can’t teach them class. Or common sense.

  6. A bit beside the point of the debate but…

#Yes me and @CJSPILLER does not really hate each other geez… We came in together love the dude about 2 hours ago via Echofon

    # CJSPILLER Before everyone jump to conclusion me n sapp are former teammates n always get into it’s not bad blood dat y’all have mannn about 2 hours ago via Echofon Retweeted by Sapp94

  7. @Tim:

That’s the point. the guy who he was directing it at ISN’T a you know what I mean. If two blacks were saying that to eachother, there wouldn’t be a backlash. I’m half black, I’m not offended by it when people use it

  8. Florio:

When you decide not to publish posts that expose a not so good side of your journalistic integrity -like my post a few hours ago-, you act like a real “cigarette”!

Really? Comes off as a real turd and hot head? Show me Joe where he comes off as a hot head? Have not seen it once this year, or the turd you are referring to. Also, what attack? Because I said the NFL doesn’t belong in Canada? So sorry I hurt you’re feelings……..get over it!!!

  10. I agree with cjspiller12….

I don’t think anyone could actually beleive that CJ is a hot head. So joetoronto is basically just trying to mislead fans of other teams who may not see CJ at press conferences as often as we do.

Spiller is well-spoken, humble, and knows how to handle the Media. He used a very common slur that would have been perfectly fine, had he not been a professional athlete. The funny thing is, he was using it against his friend….so I think you could easily argue that the phrase wasn’t being used negatively….and that is in fact different from what happened with LJ.

  11. “Spiller is well-spoken, humble, and knows how to handle the Media.”

Ah, ya. That’s why he said what he did on Twitter, leaving it out there for the whole world to see.

Ya, he really knows “how to handle the media.”

    And you know what?

It doesn’t really matter anyway, because the Bills don’t matter at all.

And you know what? We don’t want Canada to care Joe. And the crap you have said on here is wrong. The Bills don’t need Canada or Toronto to survive. Toronto is only a hockey town, nothing more, nothing less. Nobody comes to watch the Blue Jays, nobody comes to watch the Raptors. It’s a fact, face up to it. Canadian fans don’t want the Bills and we don’t want you. So keep right on bashing and putting the Bills down all the time…….we don’t care!!!
