Redskins running back Clinton Portis says his torn groin is getting better, but he’s not sure if he’ll play Sunday against the Titans.

It’s going to be another close call,” Portis said.

Portis said he wanted to play on Monday against the Eagles, but he and the team ultimately decided to play it safe.

“I wanted to be out there Monday night but it’s just being smart,” Portis said. “I think wanting to play a Monday night game just because it’s Monday night and risking missing the rest of the year, it’s not worth it. When I get back out there, I want to make sure I can help this team and sustain it a whole game.”

Portis came across as reflective in his comments, as though having played in only 12 games the last two seasons has him thinking about the end of his career.

“It’s rough, it’s tough,” Portis said. “But at the same time, you get the appreciation of football. You get the appreciation of being around your teammates, and you get the idea that this don’t last forever, so enjoy it and make the best and make some good business decisions and be prepared. If they ever call and it’s time to step away, be prepared to step away.”
