Comments on: Panthers to start Brian St. Pierre on Sunday

Is this a coach getting ready to say “it’s not my fault we stink, we’re so desperate we have to start Brian St Pierre”, or is it a coach trying to save Tony Pike’s life because it’s the Ravens defense?

The first doesn’t wash. Fox is the reason we’re so QB-barren. The second is a very nice gesture, but there really are better unemployed QBs out there. Oh well. Love my Panthers!

To put this into perspective, St. Pierre was out of football until a little over a week ago. What was he doing before the Panthers picked him up? He was a stay-at-home dad, of course. He’s had roughly one week to learn the Panthers offense. He’s 30 years old, and has had 5 pass attempts in his CAREER. To make matters worse, the Panthers will be without their 1st AND 2nd string running backs. BSP will have little to no support.

This IS a snub to the Panthers’ GM by Fox.

He’s telling them the QBs they drafted suck too badly to be put on the field.

I saw a bit of Tony Pike in college and thought he was a gritty, gutty football player. I liked his on field leadership.

And Edwards could pull off the wildcat.

I’d have played the Pike/Edwards combo and left St. Pierre as a backup for when they get squashed.

I feel sorry for you Panther fans……..this coming from a Buffalo fan……this has to be one of the worst QB problems I have ever seen on an NFL team. And people in Buffalo were complaining about our QB problem and drafting Luck. How many Panther fans would love to have Ryan Fitzpatrick right about now?

I’ll comment as a Pitt alum and Steeler fan. Brian St. Pierre was a backup for the Ravens, Steelers, and Cardinals. He played great in the preseason while at Pittsburgh albeit against 2nd and 3rd string squad. He’s big and strong which he’ll need against the Ravens.

Tony Pike owned the Pitt Panthers with a terrific arm. However he’s brittle and injury prone, not a good fit for Baltimore’s pass rush.

I wish I would have known this 5 minutes before Fox announced it. I am sure that the line has already spiked. I would love to have bought it at whatever the original number was.

Then again, there may not be a number high enough for the Panthers to cover.

Fox has already made it clear he hates his roster. This move smells like a giant middle finger to his GM, Marty “I was a good sportswriter, why couldn’t I run a team” Hurney.

I am from Cincy, so maybe I am biased here…But, Tony Pike was freakin great @ UC. Played in a BCS game (vs. Florida, unfortunately) and lost. But still…what the hell!? Does he just suck in the NFL? At least give him a chance before this hahaha. Either way, don’t care, it’s the panthers.
