VY heading to IR

As Titans coach Jeff Fisher and owner Bud Adams brace for a showdown that could see Adams forced to choose between quarterback over his coach, both sides have bought more time.

Per Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, Vince Young has been placed on injured reserve with a thumb injury suffered during Sunday’s loss to the Redskins.

After 2010, it remains to be seen whether Young or Fisher return.  The quarterback, a Houston native whom the Titans selected with the third overall pick in the 2006 draft, enters the final year of his contract, which carries a hefty eight-figure price tag.  The coach, who led the team when it was still the Houston Oilers, has presided over 267 regular-season games and counting.

Last year, Fisher apparently leaked to Chris Mortensen of ESPN the notion that Adams’ decision to pull rank and put Young in at quarterback after Kerry Collins led the Titans to an 0-6 record constituted a possible breach of Fisher’s contract.  Look for more talk like that to emerge, possibly as soon as 7:15 p.m. EST or so on Monday, when Mort and Adam Schefter do their suits-on-bar-stools thing during Monday Night Countdown.

  1. Even with a ripped thumb tendon, you could still beat A&M Vince. Go back to Austin – Mack Brown needs you this week

  2. Yesterday Vince cried that he wanted to go back into the game, today he goes on IR…….Bud Adams deserves Vince Young and doesn’t deserve one of the best headcoaches in all of the NFL in Fischer.

  3. At least we won’t have to watch VY act like such a baby for the rest of the season. There is absolutely no excuse for his actions and words yesterday and he needs to GROW UP! Hopefully, he will take this time to do so and move forward as the teammate that he evidently was in college. He needs to spend all his time forward looking at tape and working on his game so when and if he comes back next year, he can try and be a real leader on this team.

  4. Not buying that Bud Adams will choose a quarterback who gets hurt, explodes when things go badly, and has had off-field mishaps over his coach – especially if Rusty Smith shows something in the season’s final six games with more preparation than he had for being thrown into the fire vs. the Redskins.

  5. Funny that Vince gets put on IR right after Bud Adams commands Fisher to work with him. I think this was Fisher’s not-so-subtle response.

  6. people don’t realize how demoralizing a thumb injury is to VY…it now leaves him with nothing to suck on when its nap time…
