King shoots down Gruden-to-Hurricanes reports

gruden

We noted this evening that media outlets in Florida are reporting that Jon Gruden wants to coach the Miami Hurricanes.

Now we can pass along an emphatic report that it’s not going to happen.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated expressed certainty that it won’t happen, writing on Twitter, “Jon Gruden is not going to the University of Miami. Period.”

Gruden has been out of coaching since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired him after the 2008 season. The Miami job became available when Randy Shannon was fired on Saturday at the conclusion of a 7-5 regular season.

UPDATE: Gruden issued the following statement in response to the Miami reports: “I am committed to Monday Night Football and to ESPN. I enjoy working with Mike, Jaws and our entire crew and am just trying to get better at this job.”

UPDATE II: Video from King:

If Peter King says he’s not going to be their Coach, you know he WILL BE their Coach.

Can’t believe Hurricane fans actually believed they could get a coach like Gruden.

Who’s next on your wish list Miami, Bill Belichick?

Oh hell to the no !
    Miami is dreaming.
Why would he want to take that job?
Throw another 2 million on top and make it

I’d love to see Gruden off MNF. He such a frontrunner. Loves everybody that’s playing that night.

The only good thing about Gruden staying on MNF is that it keeps Matt Millen away from MNF. For my money, they can keep Gruden and Mllen both off MNF and just let Jaws do the talkin’.

The U needs a drastic change. They have about 10% of the swagger they used to and that’s just coming from the name.

JJ won both college (at d’U) and NFL championships … the material at the U haS THE POTENTIAL that could project Jon into that rare air of accomplishment…
    Nothing ventured, nothing gained…go ‘Canes!
