The New York Giants haven’t made a habit of jumping out to early leads this season, but they’ve done it Sunday against the Redskins.
Brandon Jacobs trotted into the end zone from eight yards out to cap the team’s first drive of the game at the windy New Meadowlands Stadium. It’s the first time they’ve scored a touchdown on their first drive of a game this season. The last time they were able to punch it in on their first possession was last December against the very same Redskins.
It is also the first Giants touchdown in the first half of a game since they beat the Seahawks on November 7th. In the last three weeks, the Giants have been outscored 49-15 in the first halves of games and they’ve gone on to lose two of those contests.
Jacobs provided most of the offense for the Giants on the drive. He ran for 49 yards, including a 39-yard burst through some awful Washington tackling. That was Jacobs’s longest run of the season, although he might top it from the looks of the Redskins defense thus far.
