You do this everyday yourself, Florio. How stupid do you think the people who read this unsubstantiated gossip mongering drivel are?

How about you be honest and admit that you and your staff spin stuff to advance “strategic objectives” on a daily basis? In the NFL’s case, it’s covering something up, or not admitting true intentions.

In your case, it’s trying to rile up football fans (with special emphasis on more successful teams and/or players) by spinning, fudging, slanting and outright lying to get more page views so you can show your bosses at NBC how busy you’ve been.

What’s more pathetic?

Hey it is not just football or even sports in general. It is everywhere.

When the CEO announces that despite the merger and some job duplications, there will be no layoffs, does anybody this side of the rainbow believe him/her?

When a politician declares that although with all the spending he is advocating, there will be no tax increase, even his own family does not believe him/her?

When a lawyer says, “It is not about the money.” Who believes that stuff?

So don’t pile on the GM or NFL owner as some special untrustworthy ogre. Public announcements are not made for the purpose of gettting the truth out. They are made for the purpose of calming things down and starting the spin cycle.
