John Skelton looks likely to start for Cardinals

John Skelton

The cruelest part of Josh McDaniels’ firing: Doing it just before the 3-9 Broncos faced John Skelton and the Cardinals.

The sixth-round rookie from Fordham looks likely to start on Sunday.  Nothing is set in stone, but Skelton said he would be “competing” with newcomer Richard Bartel for the starting job.  That indicates Derek Anderson won’t be available after suffering an apparent concussion last week.

The Cardinals placed Max Hall on injured reserve before signing Bartell, who was Daunte Culpepper’s backup in the UFL.  (Speaking of cruel: Culpepper’s backup got a job before Culpepper?)

Nothing is set in stone except Skelton of Fordham’s size 19 feet.

John Skelton QB, is that the same as saying bench all Card receivers until further notice, in fantasy? Or is it Larry Fitzgerald is in the AFC next season, if there is one? Or both?

I wouldn’t write off Bartel. Check out his preseason numbers with the Browns and Redskins over the last two preseasons: 30/37, 2 TD’s. Over 4 preseasons, he has a 69.4 completion percentage. If he were given half a chance, he could turn out to be pretty good. I hope he gets a shot and does well.

Now the big question…. should I pick up the Denver defense for round 1 of the fantasy playoffs?

i admit that i will be watching the card this week, not because i like them in the least, but because i have been wanting to watch this kid skelton all year. didn’t get to see a lot of him in college but was impressed with what i did see. was hoping that vikings would draft this kid as a QB of the future…i think he has all the goods to make an excellent QB in the NFL>

    Well, Daunte’s agent sucks.

Does AZ have a chance in this game? Seems to me they don’t.

I am looking at picking DEN in my suicide pool. The choices are getting slim. Tell me more about this QB.

Skelton should have been playing since week 4! This kid is big and has a strong arm! Within 2 years he will be on of the top QB’s in the NFC..

Daunte Cullpepper is his own agent. Didnt he say he was done with the NFL and wanted to be the face of the UFL??? Anyway, no harm in starting Skelton, the Cards need to see what they have with him.

Max Hall def wasnt the answer and if anything this should continue to show that preseason play doesnt mean squat.

Should never have signed Anderson….! EVER!

Sounds like a Derek Anderson clone. He is big and has a strong arm. Takes more than that, although Anderson did manage to get paid like an NFL QB.

Why didn’t they start this kid from the start? Hall is probably the worst NFL QB I have ever seen.
