Manning is a d-bag, but he’s in the discussion of greatest QB of all time. As for Painter, one of my work colleagues correctly identified him as the worst backup in pro football. The only good result for Indianapolis if Painter started would be their entry into the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.
Polian deserves a lot of credit for not building an adequate team around Manning. A few stars and some good cheap players. Thank goodness for Indianapolis’ cheapness or else we’d be seeing a lot more of Manning than we already do.

I’m not a Colts fan, I’ve listened to the Colts home broadcast on Sirius when heading to work during big games……absolutely brutal. You can usually tell how the Colts are doing based on the emotion of the announcers, especially Lame-y. Any changes for whatever reason would definately be a much needed upgrade.

Some interesting food for thought in this article. Here are some things to consider:

1. Peyton’s career statistics are astounding, but it is curious that he only has one SB win
2. Manning’s salary might be blocking the team from getting more talent around him
3. Brady/Manning is the best duo in the history of the league? What happened to Steve Young, Montana, Aikman, Favre, Bradshaw, etc?

I am from New Orleans, and many of us (I daresay the greater majority) do not totally embrace the Mannings. We adored Archie, but we never felt the love being returned. It started when Payton chose Tennessee over LSU. Even if he went to Ole Miss, like Eli did, we might have understood. The Mannings made their wealth from the city, yet they chose not to give much back. They played their high school ball there, yet neither Peyton nor Eli ever give you the impression they are New Orleanians. They distance themselves from the city. Even Brett Favre has more loyalty to the city. Drew Brees has done more for the city in 5 years than the entire Manning family has ever done cumulatively. I personally think Peyton is a talented QB but lacks that something that guys like Staubach, Bradshaw, Brady, Brees, Favre and some others have. Dan Fouts was a great QB stats wise, as was Marino, but neither ever won a SB.

majikbullet – you are too ignorant to look at the facts………..9-9 in the playoffs, he has ONE SB because of his defense (if you dont believe me, go look at the stats, best defense in the playoffs that year), he is a total choke artist (as the SB proved and his playoff appearances have proven)……comparing him to Brady is a joke. Manning gets to play 80% of his games either in a dome OR warm weather…….does Brady or Big Ben? NO.

Manning has always had one of the best O lines in the league and the Colts spend 75% of their cap on offense and he STILL cannot get the job done. and all this crap about….oh, he doesnt have a team around him……baloney.

“We’ve thrown four interceptions that have been returned for a touchdown this year. That might be a record.” Said Jim Mora once, in a typical postgame meltdown, while critizing his entire team up & down. All but one of the players accepted the criticism in stride. But the QB didn’t think that he should be called out and pulled no punches in saying it to the press.

Of course Manning is one of the greats, and of course he’s a classy guy, but there does exist a type of beyond reproach attitude with the entire otherwise-classy family. Prior to his last two years, Elway was critized unmercifully. Favre was lambasted just a few years ago when he was stinking it up. John Brodie, Tobin Rote, Bobby Layne, ditto.

The Manning fandom is truly bizarre. Given that the old adage about how QBs get too much credit and too much blame – depending on wins & losses – is true, maybe we should have given the teammates more credit all along. That is, if Manning’s struggles are because the O-line is suddenly no good and he’s without a few top skill position players.

I know one thing, and it really has nothing to do with Manning other than happenstance, if a team wins the Super Bowl this year entirely and completely because of dominating defensive line play ( NY Giants, XLII), and they cannot find anyone other than a QB to give the MVP award to, the NFL, and inparticular NFL media, will have officially jumped the shark.

Let’s face it, Manning gladly accepted all of the compliments when he was having all of those great years, but in 2010 , he’s been awful, even considering the talent around him, now he’ll just have top act like a man and accept the richly deserved criticism. Who knows, if he plays half decently down the stretch, they still may win that division. Lamey did nothing wrong though, even if it had been on the air, he did nothing wrong; his first obligation is to the listeners.

This sounds like two moronic fans that sat in front of me at the Browns/Saints game this year, who wanted to sit Brees and start Chase Daniel. It’s just dumb, and I expect it from dumb emotional fans. Hearing some of his calls for the Super Bowl, he refers to all of the players by their first names and you can tell he is a big fan of the team, so I guess his irrational fanhood came out. It’s fine — Peyton Manning is not perfect and should be criticized sometimes. But come on – Curtis Painter? That kid is terrible!

Yea sometimes I wonder if some of you guys actually watch the games? Or maybe you are just commenting on here to kill time.

Peyton is one of the best to ever play, if you are willing to argue that point then you know nothing. You can dislike the guy but don’t say he’s done.

I dislike the Pats but clearly recognize that Brady and Belicheck are the best at what they do. Manning is a freakin beast and any team outside of the Pats, Packers, Steelers and Saints would take him.
