Fine Friday roundup: Trent Cole loses $20,000

Trent Cole

It’s Friday, and that means it’s our duty on PFT to let you know what players got FedEx packages from the league.  Here goes:

1. Eagles defensive end Trent Cole, who should be headed towards an All Pro appearance, was fined $20,000 for roughing the passer.  It was his fourth such penalty, thus the heavier fine.   (All fine information from NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora.)

2. Cardinals defensive lineman Alan Branch was fined $10,000 for roughing the passer. He “unnecessarily struck the quarterback in the head and neck area.”  It was his second offense.

3. Lions defensive end Cliff Avril, who is quietly playing very well, was fined $15,000 for unnecessarily striking and opposing quarterback in the face area.

4.  ESPN’s Mike Sando reports the league fined Panthers safety Charles Godfrey $7,500 for a horse collar tackle.

I thought Goodell had a set system where he handed down fines. First offense was $25,000, second was $50,000.

If you only get $10,000 for the second offense, what was the fine for the first one, your left shoelace?

Cole fourth offense and only 20k. That should get some black and gold feathers fluffed up.

Goodell is a joke… that is all for now!

Branch should be fined an additional 50K for impersonating a defensive lineman ………….

Does anyone else see this whole new system as ridiculous.

Its disgusting that Trent Cole isnt even in the top 5 of fan votes for defensive ends in the NFC pro-bowl voting.

There isnt a defensive end in the league thats been playing better then him and fans dont even think hes top 5 in the NFC?

It just shows you how truely little most NFL fans know about the game.

I was thinking Rolando McClain would get fined for putting Darren Sproles to sleep, even though it was a clean shot.

Was Trent Cole actually roughing the passer or did it just look that way? It’s hard to tell anymore since the grey area of enforcement is so fluid.

    Fire Goodell.

QB Josh Freeman was fined $5k for his hit on a defensive player after an INT this past week.
