Chiefs sign Jamaal Charles to five-year extension

jamaalcharles

In three years with the Chiefs Jamaal Charles has emerged as one of the best running backs in football, and now he’s being rewarded.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Chiefs and Charles reached an agreement on a five-year, $32.5 million deal that includes $13 million guaranteed.

Although he’s had to split carries with Thomas Jones this season, Charles already has 1,137 yards, third best in the NFL, and a league-leading average of 6.2 yards a carry.

In his three-year career, Charles has 439 carries for 2,614 yards, a 6.0-yard average.

    I’d rather have Mcfadden.

Picked him up early last year, waited….when they let go of LJ i knew i hit the jackpot = Fantasy Title. Drafted him this year, when there was doubters. Thanks Jamaal and Congrats on a new deal. This guy is a fantasy STUD plain and simple!

Five years seems like a long time for a running back to get signed for in this day of injury and fake grass, but he has earned it and the Chiefs could be a force in the next two years. They might surprise some people in the playoffs this year.

Thank God! Was not looking to this being a distraction in the off season. Another sign that the new mgmt has a clue. War-Chiefs over the Jets 24-7.

GREAT deal for the Cheifs. Five years will take him to his age 29 year. At 6 mil a year this is a really good deal for the team.

Rather have McFadden, huh? McFadden can’t every stay healthy as he seems to be always dinged up with some minor injury.

Thomas Jones has helped share the load with Charles, but Charles has been so productive even with sharing time. He is an explosive RB and is a good receiver out of the backfield. Without Charles, the Chiefs are only an average team.

Good move by the Chiefs. I hate to say it, as I’m a Raiders fan, but the kid is a damn good back.

F’in canadian, go watch the CFL.

    Charles:

    182 carries 1137 yards rushing 3 TD’s

    34 receptions 379 yards receiving 1 TD

    McFadden:

    176 carries 870 yards rushing 5 TD’s

    36 receptions 351 yards receiving 2 TD’s

Charles is a more consistent RB than McFadden.

    http://www.nfl.com/stats/headtohead?player1=CHA561428&player2=MCF084974&player3=null&player4=null&position=runningback&playerOne=Jamaal+Charles&playerTwo=Darren+McFadden&playerThree=Select+a+Player…&playerFour=Select+a+Player…

Actually, they have quite similar numbers.. JC has played 2 more games and has more yardage and a higher YPC.. but McFadden has more touchdowns….. Truthfully though, both are having very good years…

We are on the way. Now if only we could lock down Tamba Hali and draft another stud pass rusher like him next year, our defense will be top 5 easily.

Why do you guys let joetoronto get to you? You’re doing exactly what he wants, just ignore him. You are letting an unhappy person who trolls Chiefs articles just so he can unleash his venom and draw you in and drag you down in the gutter. He makes statements like the Chiefs are irrelevant yet he takes the time to read and comment on all the Chiefs articles, it’s really just sad and I feel sorry for him. Yes, I pity his sad, pathetic life for this is all he has to live for.

Darren McFadden: 209 Yards 3 TDS
Jamaal Charles: 49 Yards 0 TDS

Hey, how’s it feel to be completely demolished by the team the Raiders rolled last week? :)
